upon booking a three night stay with my husband for the start of this month i was looking forward to it very much after the initial booking was taken in a polite and helpful way, however after reading the latest reviews on this website i was getting a bit worried! Nice ambiance initially. However cottage rooms a bit small. The bathroom well not best fittings. Lunch & breakfast too formal. Food not to my liking. A nice place to visit for a wedding, however would not recommend to stay. Due to high price which does not reflect qualtity. more

We had a lovely stay at the Grange. The room was comfortable and clean. The bed was great. The bathroom was huge, well-lit, and the shower was fantastic. Last, but not least, the restaurant in the basement of the hotel was excellent - great for staying in on a rainy night. Although about a 15 minute walk from the city... more

Disappointed as the initial booking had been very helpful and efficient and in view of the price we expected excellence. However, although a potentially good hotel, its promise is not delivered owing to many irritating failures: After a three day experience it seems the quality of service is something of a lottery ranging from individuals whose performance was very poor... more

Stayed here for our wedding and had the reception here as well. Very helpful staff wonderful room, although as it was the suite I would expect no less! But having seen other rooms I would highly recommend it. Not too sure about price as it wasn't cheap but we felt it was value for money. Very comfortable rooms, lovely breakfast... more

This is a typically old fashioned English hotel perfect for a romantic break. The furnishings are fabulous and the food is sublime!!! stay in for dinners in the warmth by the fire. It's also a nice place to have a relaxing dring pre and post meal (quiet drink not much happening but chilled). I have never eaten such wonderful food... more

This is a lovely hotel just a pleasant short walk (ten mins) from the City centre. We stayed there for one night and found it to be clean and comfortable, well maintained with excellent friendly service. The upstairs restaurant looked lovely, as did the one downstairs (although that was closed the evening we stayed). We had already planned to eat... more

This is a nice, traditional (if rather old fashioned) English hotel. Location is good, about five minutes walk from the Minster. The rooms are big and clean, with all the usual facilities. Bed was comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very nice. There's a lounge area and a bar. Would probably suit older travellers very well as has quite... more

This is my idea of a nice hotel. Not sure if the previous reviewer was in the same Grange hotel in York that my wife and I stayed in. It was my birthday so we had 3 nights in February. Rooms where very nice, and included safety deposit box , mini bar., bath robes, porterage from car park to rooms.... more

If you're going to spend this much money on a hotel in or around York, I suggest that you take the plunge and either a) go to Middleton Hall for a few pounds a night more and get a lot, lot more for your money or b) go to the Abbey Inn at Byland, to the North of York where... more
