About 10 mins car drive to the south of York, the hotel was easy to find. Check-in for our two night stay was swift and after a short guided tour of the main house, our bags were taken to our room. We had tea immediately after arrival and this was served with such style and more “equipment” that one would... more

Having read the reviews and seeing that the majority had a good time, decided to stay whilst in York. Overall it was a disappointing experience for the money. This is an expensive hotel, which is fine if it offers good value. I stay in many hotels every year and this was over hyped. The service levels were not up to... more

Our family of 2 adults and 2 young teenagers stayed at Middlethorpe Hall for one night in January. It is like staying at an old English Inn, it was fun, and very nice. Despite what other posts say, you cannot walk into York from this hotel. It is about a 10-minute cab ride from the train station in York. It... more

Reading the reviews, I can't believe I stayed at the same hotel! For the cost involved ,our romantic night away was not up to scratch. The hotel was empty except for another couple, but we were still placed in the annex outside the main building. The decor and feel of this was of the 80's and felt tired. There wasn't even... more

At Middlethorpe Hall & Spa, we care deeply about the comfort and the enjoyment of our guests, and we are very sorry to hear that this particular couple did not have a pleasant stay with us. The couple in question seems to be so upset with us, that they decided to write not one, but two reviews between them, about...

We are often a little frightened of seasonal package deals - be they Valentine's Dinners complete with horrible heart shaped food or similar . The festive season at Middlethorpe Hall however was wonderful ..... A beautiful country house which wasn't over decorated , delicious food which wasn't over cooked ( so often the case when 30 or more meals have... more

We made the mistake of booking a Sunday night ‘special’. There’s nothing special, it seems, about a Sunday night at Middlethorpe Hall. The dining room was empty but for one other couple. We are vegetarians and even though the chef obviously wasn’t at his busiest he presented us with exactly the same dish for both main course and hors d’oeuvres.... more

Booked with travel agent but NOT before reading reviews on tripadvisor. Chose York for National Railway Museum & Minster and chose Middlethorpe because we needed a top-notch place to stay in case we would rather relax than continue to tour. First reviewed other York UK 4 -star hotels (closer to center of city). We're so glad we chose this location.... more

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for our second anniversary and the entire trip was wonderful. Our room was in the main building and we had a view of both the gardens and courtyard, both of which are extremely pretty. The staff were very professional and polite, but it was nice as they also laughed with you and... more

My fiancee and Ihave just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at Middlethorpe. We stayed in Room 24 in the Courtyard, which was both spacious and extremely comfortable. It was also nice to find little touches such as the complimentary mineral water, biscuits, fruit bowl and daily laundered bathrobes. The early morning tea was fantastic too, just what you... more
