Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Large bedroom with alright beds, food was great and staff were very helpful. Nice atmosphere in the hotel, warm and welcoming. I paid for this hotel with Tesco clubcard vouchers so this was the reason for choosing this hotel. I would not have paid full price, there are more value for money hotels/b&b's in York town. Upon arrival the receptionist was very friendly, helpful and professional. In the evening there is a nice touch where someone plays the piano in the reception area. My partner and I went to this hotel from April 4-6 2009. It had been renovated back in 1991, which is actually 18 years ago now and it shows.....the room was dreadful! Was a bit dubious after reading the reveiews beforehand. But had a lovely stay. Hotel clean, daily maid service. Extras that we arranged (champagne and flowers) were ready in our room. The loaction is perhaps a bit of a hassle if you're wanting to go in and out of York as it involves taxis back after 8pm (buses stop at that time), and a mile-ish walk to the nearest bus stop in the morning.
