This hotel is right on the edge of the City walls, just a 5 minute stroll to York Minster and the historic shopping streets including the Shambles. Close to the town centre and restaurants this is an ideal base for exploring York. We booked via Late rooms and got a very good deal including full english breakfast. This is a... More

I recently organised a works dance at the Monkbar Hotel for the third time in the last ten years. As before the assistance from the hotel in organising the dance and the level of friendliness of the staff was first class. The location is excellent only a few minutes from the city walls and everyone who attended the dance was... More

The hotel is in a great location and close to the centre of York. The hotel reception is comfortable and staff very welcoming. However the rooms require updating, the one that we stayed in for two nights was dated, needed decorating and required a new bathroom. More

Have stayed at this hotel on a regular basis over the past 10 years and it is an excellent base for exploring the city. The rooms are a bit of a mix in terms of standard and I note that a refurbishment programme is on hold at the moment. But we had a nice one (116) and although one that... More

I can understand the complaints, the place is a bit tired but people need to evaluate how much money they are spending with what they get. On that level this place is superb value for money. I think number one for people should be clean and it really is. The staff are very accommodating, not only did they allow us... More

Many thanks for your review and I was delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. Our refurbishment plan had to be put on hold because of the economic climate so we welcome guests with the biggest smile and hopefully the rooms are all clean, tidy and in good working order! Thank you! Glad that your dress arrived safely too.... More

Stayed there for two nights as part of a five-day coach tour that also took in the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Found the staff very helpful especially the young lady on reception who helped me look through a large box of phone chargers that had been left behind for guests - that's what I had done in my... Had a betwixed night out and stayed here. A good example of the Best Western brand. We didnt eat dinner here, prefering to walk into York, though the food sounded appertising. Breakfast was indeed very good, which after a night on the beer is just what the doctor ordered. The room was clean and an absolute bargain for the price.... More
