My husband and I have stayed at the Abbey Guest House before, so when it was decided that my mother, sisters and I were to have a girly shopping weekend in York it was an easy and instant decision that we stay here. Gill (and loofah an adorable small dog) greeted us with a lovely warm welcome and chocolate cake... more

This was a delightful place to stay in York. Within walking distance of all central York (maybe a quarter mile to the Minster) and fronting the river. Nice and quiet, with all we were looking for - comfortable rooms, clean, great breakfast, free and safe parking. We had a hard time finding a place for 5 people to stay in York... more

Long time since I have been in York so decided to treate my Aunty to 70th Birthday present and take both her and my wife there for the weekend. So glad we chose to go to York and even better was the Abbey. Brilliant location only a couple of minutes walk in to centre, free parking, close to train station.... more

Sound like the guest with the poor review below went to a different guest house, because we thought it was great. Lovely location, friendly greeting, coffee and homemake cake on arrival, rooms clean & pleasant, coffee, tea, biscuits, boiled sweets in room along with hairdryer & toiletries in bathroom. Slightly cramped in dining room but the food was perfect in... more

I still remember how lovely and light our room seemed upon opening the door. Obviously, much care had been taken to make guests feel at home. There were three (3!) windows overlooking the River Ouse, two (2!) colorful and comfy barrel chairs, a closet with mirrored doors and...an elegant four-poster wrought iron bed. Of course there were lots of other... more

I would like to start by asking that you read previous reviews written by me on tripadvisor. This is my first negative review. I don't want anyone thinking this is a fake review. Feel free to contact me regarding our stay here. We had trouble finding the place using the instructions on the web site. When we did get there... more

We would just like to ask you to read the review below (and many other reviews) and judge this last review against all of the positive reviews that are on this site. The directions are accurate, the key pad does work and the car park is private, at the side of the house and has plenty of room to manouevre...

We have stayed at Abbey Guest House about six times over the past two years which speaks for itself really. We have stayed at all different times of the year and in all the different rooms. Gill and Alec are perfect hosts and we have come to regard them as friends now. On arrival our rooms have always been clean,... more

The location is good, but very close to railway lines, however the view of the river makes up for that. I read all the reviews before we booked and thought it would be lovely.... it was clean and fresh and the breakfast was great. And its nice to have somewhere to park. We went to the museum and Bettys the... more

We would like to respond to the reviewer's remark about it being unreasonable that she was not allowed to use a toilet in our guest house before her departure from the city at 12.30pm. Our check out time is 10.30am and after this time we clean the rooms. When the reviewer returned to collect her car she asked if she...
