This B&B location, room, food and staff all made this stay an absolutely wonderful experience and we can't wait to return. This was our first time in York and don't think we could have made a better choice. Coleraine, Northern Ireland more

A quiet hotel come B&B right by the Minster. If you want posh and all mod cons then not for you but if you want small warm and friendly with caring and attention then this one is great. Facilities are limited but what you might expect for the price and grading. Perhaps a bit dated but that is a bit... more

What a lovely hotel, the location was perfect, just a very short stroll right into the centre of York. Not sure you could stay any nearer, plus free parking! Nice clean rooms, excellent breakfast and very friendly, helpful staff. We were visiting York for a weekend break and came away feeling totally refreshed. Thank you Cavalier :-) more

I stayed in a twin bedroom with a friend for 4 nights and we couldn't find fault with the place... Neither of us had ever been to York before and the staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. There was a garage for our car, although it was a tight squeeze to get to we were glad that... more

Not a Hotel really, more a B&B. We were placed in the attic which was very small, with old decor, old pillows which were hard from years of use, even the curtains were pined up! The shower was old not clean and had mold. Communitcation was poor and unwelcoming. Traditional breakfast was good, however as a non lover of fried... more

This is an average B&B. Location is very good as it is only a short walk into the City Centre. This is also a downfall as it is on a busy main road and is extremely noisy at night. Our room was on the front of the building and it was very difficult to get any sleep at all. The... more

We stayed here for one night. It is perfectly placed for the Minster and all the other attractions in York - a £5 taxi ride from the station or a 20 minute walk. It was slightly impersonal and although it is on a main road, the noise was not intrusive. The room and bathroom were very well appointed and large.... more

The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and quantity. The staff were friendly and helpful who made us feel very welcome. However, our family room was situated in the loft which gave us very little standing room. The wallpaper was stained and in places it was torn. The furniture was falling to pieces and a lightbulb was hanging by... more

Stayed at the Cavalier for two nights to celebrate a ten year wedding anniversary. Getting a bouquet of flowers delivered to the room for when we arrived was no trouble to the staff. The hotel itself is clean, tidy and cosy. The room was tastefuly decorated with all the facilities required and an excellent shower. Its location to Yorks attractions... more

Although my mum and I loved the Cavalier, I wouldn't call it a hotel - it is a very good B & B, but I can highly recommend it nonetheless. Once you get past the fact that there don't appear to be any staff on the premises overnight, this little gem is perfectly situated for the city centre - even... more
