Sorry to be the dissenting voice, but I did not think that this Hotel came up to the mark. Staff a little "cold" and unwelcoming: we had driven 200 miles and would have really welcomed some tea and snacks made and served for us. Instead we were ushered into our room where admittedly there were tea and coffee making facilities.... more

What a lovely, peaceful, clean and elegant place! An old rectory building that has recently been very tastefully redecorated/restored... our spacious rooms made you want to just sit down and watch the trees change to fall colors... or maybe write a book. The area is also perfect for a long walk in the countryside or into the little neighboring town.... more

My brothers and I recently stopped here when we were celebrating our Grandfather's 90th birthday at the local pub. Bob and Angela - the owners - had been great when booking the room and were very friendly and welcoming on our arrival. The Old Rectory is a charming period house and the bedrooms were large and spacious, with huge high... more

The Old Rectory, Sutton-on-Derwent (7 miles from York) is an outstanding example of a British Country House hotel. The location is in a small scenic village, well placed for regional attractions like Castle Howard - the Brideshead Revisited historic location. The Old Rectory is the ideal size for a country hotel (7 bedrooms) and has a substantial garden. The owners... more

I stayed for three nights in a beautifully renovated room overlooking the front lawn. The new owners were told that this room was stayed in by Neville Shute the author when the building was still a rectory and it was where he started his writing career. Whether this is true or not will require some research, but I could well... more

Delightful hotel that has recently changed hands and been renovated. Quiet, near a great pub for food (book well beforehand as it gets busy). Near the Air museum and only a few miles from York. Highly recomended. more

Having used this Hotel (well, a B & B at the mo) for a number of years, I was impressed/amazed at the transformation underway. New owners are about half way through a restoration of this Georgion mansion to its former glory, with a big twist of modern chic! Nothing like it for miles around. I want a bathroom like that! more

Bed bugs my .... foot! We have stayed there regularly over the past ten years in various rooms and have never been bitten nor seen any creatures living in the beds! This is a country hotel and if you leave you windows open, midges may fly in, but that's the countryside for you, how thoughtless of the midges! As for... more

For many years we have treated this as our holiday hotel. The rooms are large, clean and well furnished. The food is excellent. Friends who we have recommended are more than pleased with our choice. Close to the Air Museum and York Park and ride. Always made most welcome. more
