Stayed for one night in Aug 09.I think it depends on where you are in the hostel but our room was damp, the carpet was stained and you stuck to it,beds hard, toilet next to us stank. Breakfast ok but packed up at 9.30am on the dot and coffee pot taken away quickly. Cost us £80 for a family room, outrageous for non... more

I have stayed at the YHA in yprk a few times but each time I go the cleanliness is slipping. Rooms are very basic and not cleaned properley after previous guest we had to remove a big ball of hair out of the sink. Toilets are really unclean next to the rooms and we checked in the same time as... more

This was our first experience of a youth hostel & were slightly hesitant about what it would be like. We had the impression that it would be full of stuffy sandal wearing bearded vegetarian types. However there was a great mix of really interesting like minded people. The hostel itself is located about a mile outside of the city centre... more

We are a fairly experienced YHA family. We stayed in York as it is the only YHA there and the rates were just about reasonable. It is close to the City centre and walkable to the Railway Museum. The problem we faced was that there is a large annex building where we had a family room along with numerous other... more

Great hostel which I totally recommend. Even when very busy the desk staff always seemed to have a friendly word and were available to help. Nothing too much trouble for them. There's a good restaurant with nice canteen food (it shuts at 7.45 though which we thought was a bit early) and a members kitchen so you can cook your... more

Initially planned to stay in this hostel for 1 night but ended up stayed for 3 nights. The room was very clean, there is locker in the room. Good heating system, clean sheet, ample space. Food served is very good, there is also a member's kitchen where you could help yourself if you decided to cook something for lunch or... more

It was clean, warm, and there were plenty of facilities available. Its situated in a great location, not to far from the town centre and easily accessable from the train and bus station. Its cheap, and the food was great. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the people staying there were great. more

I stayed at the York Youth Hostel for one night recently and was very impressed with the service and cleanliness. The staff on Reception were most helpful and friendly. (even providing me with an alarm clock when I asked if they did early morning calls!). My twin bedded room was clean and comfortable, although basic (but fine for a one... more
