Just returned from a three night break at the Barbican in York. The house is beautiful, the room was lovely, and the food was fantastic! It is a traditional house, full of character and charm, not for the minimalist! But while it was of Victorian style it was pristinely clean with all the modcons you could want - flat screen... more

What makes the Barbican special is the amazing “nothing-too-much-trouble” approach by the couple who run it, Adrian and Ann. Staying in York for a couple of nights, my hire car had developed a flat tyre by the time I’d arrived there. Adrian took on the burden of tracking down the call out service – not straightforward since the hire company... more

The Barbican House is a lovely B&B with delightful owners. The breakfast (included in the price of the room) is DELICIOUS and is homemade to order every morning. The rooms are absolutely spotless--clean as a whistle. And the location is great. I was attending a conference at the University of York and was able to walk both to the Uni... more

Tina Turner could have been writing about my stay at Barbican House. Adrian and Ann stopped being strangers the moment I arrived for my stay, The service ,the room/and its cleanliness ,and boy the food just,SIMPLY THE BEST. My husband & I stayed here for 1 night. We were upgraded due to other guest wanting to stay longer. Our room was number 8 which is in a seperate building from the main guest house (just across the street). We were on the ground floor which opens into a small lounge area, then there is a good size bathroom... more

Three of us traveled to England from Indianapolis, Indiana USA this past May, and York was our final stop before our journey back home. Adrian and Ann were friendly and helpful and provided very clean, safe and excellent accommodations. The incredible breakfast was tasty and very filling. We stayed in the small cottage across from the main house and enjoyed... more

the couple who run this guest house were helpful beyond the call of duty after one of our party broke down on the way there. Everywhere was clean and comfortable. The breakfast catered for everyone with a great variety of choice all of which were delicious. more

When people use the word nice, I always think - not great but not awful, and that sums up my view of the Barbican. I can't fault it, apart from maybe the noise and the curious parking arrangements, but I can't rave over it either. Our room was very clean and comfortable, but on the small side and felt over... more

Absolutely delightful hotel. So many nice touches and so convenient for the centre of York. The owners were away on holiday when we stayed, and our hosts were the original owners of the property who had stepped in to manage it temporarily. They could not have been more helpful and were very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Good literature available... more

Barbican House was a lovely place to stay. My friend and I debated whether staying near the Minster or on the far opposite side at the Barbican. Despite being far from the more popular inn area, we were very close to the wall and there were plenty enough restaurants and pubs to enjoy without all the hassle of crowds and... more
