Room 5 had a huge water stain on the wall, paint peeling off. Mildew in the ensuite, no where to hang towels, a shower with zilch power. No hair drier. Room 2 smelled mouldy. A lot of street noise. Rest of the hotel tired and hugely in need of refurbishment. Where is the fire escape on the top floor????? Not... More

We were extremely disappointed with our stay at The Gillygate. We stayed in room 1 which upon arrival was cold due to the radiator being turned off. The decor and furniture is extremely dated. The bathroom was disgusting. There was mould around the bath and tissue shoved in a hole in the glass in the window. The shower was cold... More

Stayed here for one night with my son. We had a bed and a sofa bed in the room which was fine, dated but clean with a large tv on the wall. The bathroom was more disappointing with mildew in places. We did get hot water for the bath but I couldn't get the shower to work. It wasn't particularly... More

very disappointed, we stayed there one night and that was enough for us, the only reason we stayed was because we were going to a concert and couldnt get booked in anywhere else. freezing cold rooms, rotten wooden window frames, heating come on and only luke warm. no hot water, bathroom a disgrace, threadbare carpets, should of complained but we... Stayed here for one night (Saturday). It's next to impossible to book one night in a hotel in York on a weekend so the Gillygate was the only option. On the plus side the location is excellent, the staff were nice and helpful and the room was clean. On the minus side the pub was quite tired, the room was... More

As a group of friends who actually live in York we hadn't realised what a gem the Gillygate was until recently. We called in one evening by chance and have been returning ever since. The staff and regulars are incredibly friendy and the whole pub has a very welcomming atmosphere. However, the main reason we keep returning on weekend nights... More

I've seen a lot of reviews of the Gillygate Hotel, so i wanted to produce an honest review. It’s in a great location right in the centre, and very easy to find. Free parking is a benefit and will easily save you £10 over the course of your stay compared to hotels where you have to pay to park. Arrived... More

We stayed in York for two nights during the February half term. Our room at the Gillygate was at the front and although it was a busy road we had a good nights sleep, the bed was very comfortable. The main problem was the ensuite which was very small and there was nowhere to hang towels or put toiletries,it also had a pumped... A run down pub of the sort that is slowly dying on its feet. Breakfast is included which is just as well because no one in their right mind would pay for it - after the first night we ate elsewhere. Rooms are cold, no double glazing, badly fitting windows letting in the cold and noise from a very busy... More
