This is a very small B & B, possibly only 2 rooms, but with a lovely aspect fronting the beach and sea at Newbiggin. The room we stayed in unfortunately overlooked the back yard, but there's a terrace in the garden where you can sit and enjoy the sea view. Our bedroom had recently been refurbished and was comfortable enough, although quite a tight fit for the two of us. The lady who runs the place is kind and helpful, and was happy to serve us breakfast at the exact time that we wanted it, which was very considerate of her. Although B & Bs don't provide the facilities of hotels, they can often make up for that in friendliness and hospitality, which this one certainly offers. We enjoyed our breakfast, had a good chat to the landlady and the other guests, and left having had a very pleasant stay. more

Northumberland has so much to do that finding we were a bit overwhelmed in deciding where to stay. We would definitely recommend Captain's Lodge if you're looking for a base to explore from - it's an easy drive north to Lindisfarne and Berwick, or west to explore Hadrian's Wall. The town itself is probably one of many suffering from British popularity of holidaying abroad so seems a bit run-down and places to eat/drink are sadly a bit limited. But it has tonnes of potential with the new Couple scultpure and regeneration of the bay. If you have a seaview room you will not be disappointed, regardless of the weather. The room was one of the cleanest we've stayed in. Cooked breakfast was great and not at all greasy. Eggy bread and bacon highly recommended. We received excellent service all iin all. Only downside of the accommodation is that you need to be good at parking, but Kathy (the owner) will help guide you in! more
