I can only concur with farkyscotland regarding the golf but our experience was probably made worse by the recently spiked greens which I appreciate is a task that is part of ongoing course maintenance but when combined with the boggy/waterlogged state of the course, the freezing gale force wind and then the heavy rain made the whole experience one to... more

Just returned from a 2 night golf trip.On arrival we were advised that the swimming pool was closewd and that all meals were to be taken in the golfer's bar/lounge rather rhan the main restaurant due to some form of refurbishment. Should the hotel not have advised the tour operator ( Golfbreaks ) that this was the case? First afternoon... more

Stayed for 2 nights last week. Booked a reasonably good deal with dinner. Beautiful grounds but the hotel disappoints especially if you are expecting a castle type front. very helpful staff and nice room. Found the bar staff in claret jug chatty if you took the trouble to speak to them but also they were not over friendly. Main restaurant... more

We stayed in a lodge for the week and found the level of service within the hotel quite poor. We ate in the Claret Jug on several occasions. The first time we ate there, we ordered Leek & Potato soup for starter. It had huge chunks of chicken in it. When we queried what soup it actually was, they confirmed... more

This was our second 1 night stay this year and was again pleased with the quality and relaxed atmosphere. Reception is friendly and helpful, in fact all staff are courteous and well trained in keeping the customer happy. Small requests are met with a swift response. We had this time a standard room which was clean and well appointed but... more

I had read previous reviews and was a bit concerned that we had made the right choice to go to Slaley Hall, also having stayed at Belton Woods a couple of times and not been that impressed. Anyway, when we drove through the grounds it all looked very nice and we were hopeful and this was to be well founded.... more

Our stay was very much last minute and we had to book the night before through a discount website after a change in our itinery. I did check TripAdvsor of course, which didn't fill me full of hope! Anyways, we checked in at 3pm .. no queue, smiling faces all around. Nice welcome, and we stayed in one of the... more

Went for a winters break with a good 6" of snow on our arrival making for a spectacular setting and in a great mood which quickly evaporated. Our room was quite grubby but just about acceptable so we dropped the cases and went for a drink. No-one serving! The bar was obviously open as a couple had drinks at their... more

We have stayed with Devere before and found them good but Saley Hall was a bit disappointing. The Air con was broken in our first room. In our second room it worked but wasn't that effective. We also noticed that the air conditioning in the restaurant and Golf Club House was poor too. One of the dining rooms was being... more

A very pleasant stay, ideal for a romantic break. I was very impressed with my stay at Slaley Hall. The grounds are beautiful and very striking as you approach. Follow one of the colour coded walks to take in some lakes and woodland area. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially the bar staff. The hotel had a lovely,... more
