We visited Nottingham recently for a friends wedding and had the misfortune of booking a room at the Talbot House Hotel. We arrived to an empty reception desk.... waited for 30 minutes.... then spoke to one of the cleaners who showed us to a room on the top floor. We walked past every other room in the hotel... all empty and beds unmade (no one else seemed to be staying there? hmmmm?). Surprisingly, our room wasn't ready... beds unmade etc. The mattresses and pillows were very very old and badly soiled and the carpets and decor extremely tired! The smell matched the look and we decided to leave. We then struggled to get hold of anyone who could refund us the £50 deposit. We were given the owners mobile number. He was very rude and told me that "there is no pleasing you people"... whatever that was supposed to mean. Long story short, we got our money back after an uncomfortable meeting with the owner and then booked last minute at the Swan hotel down the road. Book...
