The shower holder is broken - it has been fixed by turning the holder upside down but that means you have to shower one handed and the water pools under the bath which would account for the damp in the carpet and damp smell that greets you. I hate it when you have to order breakfast the night before as... more

A hidden gem! What a surprise when we pulled in the driveway. Large lush gardens, a pond, wild pheasant and the cat. Our cottage was very large and charming. Four poster bed, tea, coffee, biscuits and hot chocolate in the rooms. Very quite and private. Joan was very helpful in providing information on the area. She even had secret stories... more

We stayed in lodge one, lovely comfortable well put it this way there nothing that I could find fault with Breakfast is something else, well you just have to visit to see for yourself? work of art. I travel to and stay in many parts of the UK and consider I have a wide experience of the good, bad and mediocre standards of B&B accommodation available. Brown`s has to be one of the very best of the best. The accommodation is first class and the warmth of welcome never fails to impress. The breakfast also reflects the... more

What a jewel. A beautiful place, set amongst lovely gardens. We spied a few bunnies diving into the hedge on our approach and were entertained by birdsong as we sipped a glass of wine on the deck in the evening. (and I'm sure there were fairies, too!) Joan & Robin were delightful hosts and served up a super breakfast on... more

I dislike being negative but i stayed at Browns and witnessed first hand the haughty manner of Joan the landlady, she was rude and unpleasant. There was other guests there and she acted in a totally different manner to them. On the plus side the room though small was pleasant. The bed could have done with the matress being changed... more

I'll start with the breakfast, which is enough to see you through the next 12 hours. I attacked it manfully (for a little woman!), but didn't quite finish the scrambled egg that came with the salmon on the 1st day, although I managed all of the succulent kipper fillets (4) on the 2nd. I drink like a fish, and was... more

"Cross over the ford", just as the brochure says and you enter a different world. Prior to our stay at 'Brown's', I had read comments on Trip Advisor and was encouraged by the excellent reviews and decided to persue our stay in Nottinghamshire and at 'Browns' The whole setting was perfexct, from the ambiance of the reception/hall, surronded by the... more

I think the problem started when we drove up in a van, Joan the owner came out of the house and when she saw me get out of the van and I (shock horror) have a shaved head, I was asked coldly if I could be helped. I think it went downhill from there :-) Despite both of us being... more
