Stayed here overnight with girlfriend and two mates, booked two rooms. Shame really because each room has four beds but Laterooms.com doesn't say that. Rooms are, in a word, hellholes. Cheap, nasty, filthy and noisy. The constant vibrating noise from the bathroom is bad enough but when you flush the toilet it's as though a digger is driving it's way... more

I was staying in this hotel over the weekend of the Ice hockey play offs and since most of my budget was going to be spent on drink I was looking for a low budget hotel, I found this in the Clarence hotel. £25 a night will get you a room with a double and single bed (which are surprisingly... more

We had a fantastic time made very welcolme even when we were drunk and noisy. Hotel deserves better coments than are on these reviews its a top place for a budget hotel. Graham the porter and all the staff are very friendly and we would definately stay again. The stag night groups were as mad as us hope their hangovers... more

I stayed here as part of a stag weekend, and this is the only circumstance I would ever stay in a place like this. Either that or a sports tour or something. The hotel is in a really dodgy part of town with smoking 11 year old chavs on every corner outside the hotel. Going out after dark felt like... more

Visited as pat of hen do - hotel booked on my behalf. What can I say? Ringing the doorbell to get in during the day!!?!?! Hotel room was VERY basic with plastic coated matresses! No soap in bathroom. Bar was great (thank goodness) and was open when we got back late in the evening :) Pleasant service. Would probably not... more

We stayed at this hotel for a stag weekend in Notts and the hotel is, in a word, grim. The rooms were bordering on being disgusting, though the bedding and towels were (or appeared to be) clean, the plastic mattress aren't comfortable! Everything had a thick layer of dust and lord only knows what must be living in the carpet....... more

We stayed at the hotel for a lads night out, the bar was dark and dirty, the staff were extremly unhelpfull and rude (also tried to increase the price of the room as we paid). The rooms smelt of sewage system which had overflowed from the toilet and therefore making the shower flood. The beds were disgusting with staines all... more

Stayed at the Clarence Hotel on Sunday 1st of October 2006. The hotel is situated on the main Alfreton Road which leads to the City Centre uphill approx 15minutes away at a leisurely pace. It's a very large old Pub converted into a 21 bed hotel spread over 3 Floors, is decorated to a decent standard which reflects it's budget... more
