seems like someone below already commented on same - poor slow service. Bank Holiday Monday - possibly understaffed but very disorganised. We waited approx 20 mins to give drink order and then another 20 mins before food order - and then circa 45/50 minute wait for food. 2 of our orders were forgotten and came 15 minutes after everyone else...... My husband and I visited the Talkhouse on 29th April for an overnight stay. We were greeted by friendly staff who checked us in quickly and showed us to our room. Despite our late arrival, we were offered a meal, we declined as we had eaten on the way, however we did have drinks in the bar, were served by... More

My boyfriend and I booked to stay at The Talkhouse based on Tripadvisor reviews and price. I must say that the mixed comments regarding service and room cleanliness must be discounted, for we had nothing but helpful and polite staff members, and a beautiful room in the stable block. We arrived very early, in fact the pub had only just... More

We decided to visit the Talkhouse for a last minute Sunday lunch and booked a table for 1.30pm. The restaurant was fairly busy but there were also several empty tables so they did not appear to be at full-stretch. We were seated promptly but it then took ages for anyone to ask for our order (not even drinks were offered... More

We hadn't been here for 10 years but had good memories. The food remains good but the service....well, you could certainly feel more appreciated and less of a burden for sure. We were there on a Tuesday and ad an early reservation which we asked to push back slightly. They weren't very accommodating and certainly weren't busy...the food still tasted... More

Can't fault The Talk House - welcoming manager couldn't do enough to make us feel at home. Absolutely charming olde-worlde pub with outstanding food & wine. Stable block rooms great value - cosy but very clean and peaceful. Evening meal was delicious with excellent drinks list. Perfect for exploring Oxford and 5 mins drive from Park and Ride (free parking... More

I was so looking froward to my birthday lunch at the Talk House because it has great wine and I have had lovely food there before. It is often used by grieving friends and relatives as it is so close to the crematorium but we had been there many times, in the presence of such groups and we had shared... More

We booked a room here on the way back from our Christmas trip to the Midlands and loved the place. Very picturesque, fantastic cozy bar and restaurant. Very cute. Ate in the restaurant and food was yummy although not cheap. Service was really good and we felt well looked after. The room was comfortable, lovely bed and bath and bath... More

We expect to pay premium rates on Christmas Day but we also expect tasty well prepared food and an enjoyable ambience in return. Both were cruelly absent this year. I don't intend to go through the meal offering but suffice it to say the turkey was pre-packaged and awful and so was the duck. Customer menu choices were provided well... More

After visiting the website and subsequently the venue, it looked the perfect place for our team's Christmas lunch. It is true that the location is great and the restaurant/bar is very warm, cosy and tastefully decorated. It is a lovely-looking place and expectations were high. However, we were massively let down and disappointed by not only the quality of the... More
