Was in Oxford with my 17 year old son who was down for an open day at Balliol, found the staff to be very friendly and room comfortable, it was in the height of a heatwave and electric fan was supplied in room.....bar food was superb and my 3 day stay was most enjoyable seeing the sights, hope to return... more

It is in a great location by the Thames and close to the city centre. Rooms are on two floors, accessed from the pub on the ground floor by a rather narrow staircase, and ours had a view over the river and was nicely fiurnished; bathroom was very spacious with a walk-in shower. £95 for a double room per night... more

I called at this pub after being quoted outrageous prices when dropping in at two hotels in The High. (One suggested I went away and booked online for a better price: why should the price be higher when you just turn up?) The price (£95) was not bad for Oxford, and I was upgraded to a lovely room as the... more

Despite the mixed reviews on TA, we booked a room in this inn (located above a big English pub) for a one-night stayover in Oxford on our way from Bath to London. The main reason being its excellent location, which is right on the Thames and a short walking distance to all major attractions. Let's just say the accommodation was... more

This delightful English Pub situated next to the thames has 15 En-Suite bedrooms. Many rooms look onto the Thames and you may see swans, cootes, ducks geese and if lucky even a heron. From the other side of the Thames Salters Steamers go twice a day to Abingdon, and there are small motor boats, rowing boats and punts for hire. Our lovely bedroom on the top... more

We were looking for accomodation at the last minute for the bank holiday weekend but were lucky to find such a nice room at a few hours notice. The Head of the River is a decent and popular riverside pub with a large terrace. We had room 4 which was (just) overlooking the river, a plain but pleasant and spacious... more

Slight problem at check in - they had no record of my colleague's booking. Luckily a room was free. Whilst the room was clean and nicely decorated, this is a pub and not a hotel. My room was very noisy (I heard with absolute clarity the person next door using the bathroom), and the elevated road outside looked straight into... more

16 Sep 2008 | Trip type: Family

My husband and I stayed here for one night for a family event. We ate in the bar and I can honestly say it was some of the best pub grub I've ever had. The beer was well-kept and the bar staff were very helpful. However, our good experiences stopped there. The room (room 7) was very disappointing, and at... more

We plan to return to Oxford... more

Booked this through website laterooms.com - only problem we had was the directions which were incorrect on two counts. They seemed to be geared to people travelling from London rather than the North. However when we eventually got there it was worth the wait. If you use this website navigate yourself using the map and ignore the written instructions. The... more
