Stayed here with a group friends over the weekend. This has all the appeal of an amazing place, but the feel of a cheap themed hotel. The service is poor, rude and unmanaged; the evening meal arrived on cold plates and the sides in cold bowls. I would sum it up by saying: They don’t deliver what they offer and... more

Cosy bedroom with very nice bathroom but everywhere is very dark, including all the bedroom furniture, so it's a dark room and the lobby and restaurant are also dark, making it hard to read the menu. The staff wear black too and it gives the place a nightclubby feeling and the staff have a bit of an attitude too- depressed... more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday on their Sunday deal (£25 for room if you spend £75 in restaurant). The meal was delicious. Huge portions and very reasonably priced. We are locals and had previously experienced their snobby service so I was a bit hesitant to try again. However, I was delightfully surprised that someone has been teaching... more

We stayed at the Mal Oxford for one night for our anniversary. We had a great stay and are looking forward to going back again. Few minor issues, but this did not spoil our stay. Hotel is in an excellent location, easy to walk to from train station and near the shops. We upgraded to a cell and were not... more

Well where can I start with this -once castle, once prison, converted hotel?! An excellently presented hotel with more than accomodating staff. It has been refurbished with attention to original detail. We stayed in the cells (quite rightly) in which 3 cells have been converted into 1 room. The bathroom is modern although just room enough for one - it... more

Booked this room on their Sunday rate.. £40 for the room if you spend £75 in the brasserie. Yes its hard to find but give reception a call and they will advise. We arrived far too early and the weather was pants... they let us park the car before 12 and then check in at 1.ish as the room was... more

What a location, what a building, what a disastrous service standard. This hotel has been fabulously renovated from an old prison. I have to take my hat off to the person who persuaded the bank manager to lend money to convert this as it must have been a monumental task. The rooms are very interesting and well equipped but please... more

Booked one night on their 'Club Mal' rate- £145 one course dinner, internet, breakfast I was abit nervous due to the mixed reviews, but I couldnt fault the service on check in. Actually I was contacted prior to my stay to see if I wanted to book a table due to having a meal included in my rate, so it... more

We booked this hotel on an offer rate and quickly discovered that just about everything costs extra. They have so many deals it can get confusing but if you can spare the time to stay a night in this unique property, it's worth it. we had a superior cell room at almost half price but then came the extra's........ £20... more

Having spent a glorious three days at the Glasgow Malmaison at Easter this year, was keen to try another one of the Malmaison's quirky hotels. We booked in for the £10 (which turns out to be £25 at Oxford) Sunday night offer, plus spend £75 at the brasserie. We were allocated a room in the Governor's Wing which large and... more
