All the rooms in the hotel have been refurbished now. My parents stayed in the Hurlstone Suite (lovely!) and our room was also very modern and funky. The reception area is more traditional but still fresh. Bar area really nice with candles on at night. Reasonable prices in bar for food and drinks. Very friendly staff. I think some review... more

I frequently stay in hotels in this price range on business travel, so I am used to online price reductions bagging the basic level rooms availabe in a hotel..... BUT This didn't measure up to a much lower rating - and the hotels own webpage price of £90 would be a joke for the accomodation on offer. Given that the... more

I didn't recognise the place from the descriptions in the reviews on here! I can only assume that the other reviewers had been staying in unrenovated rooms. The one we had (62) was modern, stylish and well appointed. And yes, it's a little bit of a walk from reception and downstairs, but it's an old, rambling building so what do... more

I have just returned from a visit to Sheffield , I booked this hotel not knowing about this web site , When i arrived i was given the keys to room 50, i had to walk quite a way , down some stairs to what looked like the basement, When i walked into the room the smell was really bad... more

I too wished I had read the reviews of this hotel before staying here, fortunately I was only staying the one night. The reception staff were friendly and courteous, though on reflection i think they were just being apologetic as they knew what the rooms are like (appaling). Breakfast is a joke, poor service and chaotic. I only wanted poached... more

I stopped here for my graduation with my parents, as did a friend of mine and his parents. They got a gorgeous room with lovely decor and furniture. I got one of the 'standard' rooms which wouldn't be out of place in a 1960s hostel. The decor is drab, the floorboards creak like mad, the shower probably hasn't been replaced... more

We stayed here for one night before moving into our temporary home. I wish I checked this site before giving them our credit card number. The place is actually falling down! Torn wallpaper, chipped bathroom tiles, mildew, tub that does not drain, stained carpet that smells....just about everything you can think of at an awful hotel, and some extra. There... more

Had to stay here for 1 night and wouldnt recommend. The room was horrible, mould around the window, paint hanging off the ceiling, yellow curtains, stains on the quilt and the carpet was filthy. The room cost for the night was £109 and the average price for a meal being £15 plus which is ridiculous. I would never go back... more

I'll start with the good points, shall I? Well first, the hotel is in a good location if you are either visiting someone at the hospitals or the University. It looks fine from the outside, nice old buildings with a pretty (tiny) garden. Parking is plentiful. Also - the communal areas are pretty nice, the bar and restaurant have clearly... more

Booked last minute, but should have checked before! Check in was painless enough and was directed to Room 105. I was told that there would be a party, did I mind if it went on till 1am? As long as it wasn't too noisy, I didn't really care. Room was a bit on the small side but I was on... more
