As a regular visitor of Sheffield, who wants a friendly, comforting place to stay for a few days in a Foreign Country I am charmed by Thornsett House and its landlord Des and his help Kitty. The bus 22, which has a stop right next to Thornsett House, will take you straight into the Middle of Sheffield (buy a ticket... more

I stayed 2 nights and was very satisfied. Des the landlord was chatty and helpful, cooked a lovely breakfast and took me to the station which was great. The house is currently being renovated so naturally it is in a bit of a builder's mess. It wont appeal to those who prefer hotels, but if you can accept this, it... more

Was looking for a reasonably cheap night's stay in Sheffield and found Thornsett House on the internet. Thought it just looked a little old-fashioned from the pictures on the website so went ahead and booked. When I arrived, I was greeted by Yorkshire's answer to Rab C Nesbit. I was immediately struck by the overwhelming fusty smell which wafted out... more

I have never been inside a more horrible building in my life. I am not exaggerating this statement for effect, I am being absolutely 100 percent totally and utterly deadly serious. During my life I have for one reason and another visited morgues, abandoned buildings, a sewage works and a coal pit. Each and every one was cleaner, tidier and... more

The worst anything ever. Please don't stay there. A cross between 'Rising Damp' and 'League Of Gentlemen'. Everything about it was horrible, the rooms, the smell, the atmosphere. The man who runs it on his own tries hard enough, but is in the wrong line of work. more

The first thing that hits you as you enter the hotel is the smell, a combination of cigarettes and god knows what else. The single room was very basically furnished, the carpet was dirty and looked as if it had not been hoovered for 10 years, the coffee cup and spoon had not been cleaned since the previous occupant and... more

Think Bates Motel - think Thornsett House. This is the worst bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in. The house is run by the "the son and his mum". The house hasn't been touched since the 1970's with wood-chip and stained painted walls. and the smell of 1000 cigarettes. I pulled back my sheet - (they don't realise what... more

Spent one night in this dreadful B&B. The room was very basic, unkempt and tatty. The whole place needs money spent on it and updating. The bathroom and toilet were crude not very clean. Don't stay here. more

Hard to believe the Thornsett House. Booked days in advance, the proprietor insisted that I arrive before 7 so that she could 'go off to work.' I did in fact rush over and got there well before 7, only to be kept waiting by someone who seemed to be part of the cleaning staff. After awhile could hear her talking... more
