Despite some good reviews of this hotel, here is my personal experience. I stayed here after my sister's wedding reception in a nearby hotel (they were fully booked so i chose st pauls...what a mistake!) Although initially impressed by this modern and smart building, it all went downhill from there. On check-in i was dealt with by probably the most... more

When i called the hotel to make the booking the person i spoke seemed unsure on some details, however evenutally the booking was made. Upon arrival at the hotel the blond receptionist was having a conversation with a fellow member of staff and ignored myself until she had finished, not a very good start. When i was checked in i... more

After reading the positive reviews about this hotel our expectations were high, perhaps that in part was why we were a little disappointed. Check in was ok although the lady on reception was a little difficult to understand. Our room was not quite ready, but we were told it would be in 5 minutes. We took the opportunity to have... more

Great location right in the city centre. Amazing breakfast - dont miss this part - I could have sat there all day eating the various things they had on offer. The room was clean, new, had a great view over the city and peaks. The spa club was nice too - good pool and funky ice rooms, sauna etc. We would... more

First, this is a good hotel for a single woman - an attractive location in the heart of the city only 5 minutes walk from the rail station and with plenty of unthreatening eating and drinking options on your doorstep. I mention those because the room service menu, which I often resort to when travelling alone, didn't really appeal and... more

The hotel is in a great central position for shopping and shows with The Lyceum and Crucible on the doorstep and City Hall just a block away. Sheffield is a much improved city over a few years ago and becoming very stylish and European in outlook and this Hotel is certainly part of it. The Mercure is beautifully appointed and... more

We stayed for 2 nights, the hotel is fantastic and in a great location. The rooms are a good size and our room over looked the winter gardens. The pool and spa facilities are a real bonus. The only downside is the drinks in the bar are quite expensive. more

We booked this room at the last minute a week before the Easter weekend, having read the reviews on TA. We had a great time, the room was huge and very clean (and I'm fussy!). A really good sized bathroom with separate shower was a lovely surprise. Highly recommended and we will stay again. more

We stayed in this hotel for one night (Saturday/Sunday) whilst visiting relatives. The hotel is very central, but unfortunately it doesn't have a car park. Reception advised us that we could use the nearest NCP car park at a reduced rate; we didn't need to use this facility as we left our car with our relatives. Our fourth floor room... more

This is a pleasant enough hotel; probably one of the better choices in the city. The location couldn't be better; the staff are friendly and attentive; the facilities in the sports centre excellent. Reception and the communal areas are very contemporary and the champagne bar had an attractive ambiance. The bedrooms are also very comfortable and attractively laid out. Overall,... more
