Built of golden Bath stone, The Ayrlington is a large and handsome English Heritage listed building set in a splendid walled oriental garden with exceptional views of the City and its medieval Abbey. Bath's magnificent historic sites, speciality shops and excellent restaurants are all just a five minutes level stroll away. all 19 bedrooms have an individual theme and are beautifully furnished, some with four poster beds. The emphasis is on creating an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in the centre of Bath's vibrant city centre. The Ayrlington has a licensed residents' bar, secure on-site private parking and is entirely non smoking. We cannot accept children under 5 years of age. The Ayrlington's ongoing commitment to quality has brought some well deserved and hard earned awards - five stars from Visit Britain, a listing in The Good Hotel Guide and multiple Bath in Bloom garden awards.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Second year staying at this hotel. Was lovely that some of the staff recognised us which added the personal touch. Stayed in the poultney room . Overlooking the cathedral, comfortable with all amenities. Staff helpful and friendly. Casey and zen could not do more for us . Our thanks to them and the rest of the Arlington staff. Breakfast always good . The hotel is so convenient to Bath centre , on our next visit from Greece we will definitely be staying with you again.

Pleasant , boutique feeling accomodation. No lifts but staff helped to carry bags up :) Lovely and clean, rooms are cosy and well kept . We stayed in the Poppy Room - it felt homey and very pretty . 🤩 Loved the decor in the room and accomodation. . Staff were friendly and accomodating . Not far walking distance to shops and sites . Car parking available on site for a fee. Would def stay again

We stayed for 2 nights on a short break at the end of February, and had a most enjoyable stay. Our room (a 'superior room' ) was spacious, comfortable and quiet, at the back of the hotel looking over the garden and sports field towards the town centre. The staff were helpful, breakfast was good and there is a nice small sitting room. The town centre is a reasonable 10 min walk with a wide choice of restaurants, though the excellent Holburne museum is much closer. As it was winter we did not go out into the garden at the back, but this would be lovely in summer.

Booked two rooms, both disappointing. Before writing this review I wrote to the hotel manager directly to provide an opportunity to respond, no such courtesy! Orchid room • No heating on arrival, the room was very cold. Reported to reception, who visited the room and corrected. • The bathroom light was two bulbs missing, covered in cobwebs and had two glass covers missing. The room was dark. • Bed extremely uncomfortable, mattress was like cotton wall and performed a Mexican wave when attempt to turn over • Tiles broken in bathroom • Noise- Hot water tanks next to the room were hissing all night, couldn’t sleep. • The bathroom mirror was damaged, un clean and was difficult to apply make up • Damp patches on side of bathroom shutters- unsavoury smell. The room needs attention. It was certainly not a five star experience. Chinese room • Carpet hadn’t been vacuumed very well, previous guests hair on the carpet was stuck to my socks! It was not my hair, my hair is down to my bottom and the hair in the room was shorter. • Room was ridiculously hot on arrival • Badly lit despite main light and lamps • Main head to shower was not working, I used the adjustment nozzle accurately ensuring it switched from the smaller head. A trickle came out and was freezing, I gave up! • The bed was not firm, similar to the orchid room- mattress was poor quality and not supportive of my back. The bedding was clean however. • Noise- the guests above the room was like baby elephants until 11:20pm. I could hear them taking showers and moving around this morning also. There was a hissing noise present throughout the night, I suspect it was the hot water storage tanks when the immersion kicked in, i.e. each time a hot tap was opened. I couldn’t sleep due to the noise, so disappointing after a 12 hour day at work. Breakfast- poor • £18.95 per person is extortionate for the experience. Toast was cold and appeared pre made and not to order. Lots of better hotels nearby. Total shambles

On the surface this hotel had much going for it but, unfortunately, once you dig a bit deeper you find a hotel that doesn't live up to its hype and is in need of TLC. Good points - great location, friendly staff and excellent breakfast Bad points - whilst this hotel offers (paid) parking, it is a tiny car park and, once full, you have to park on the road (the hotel will generate a permit for you). The room itself was large and spacious but actually very shabby. Multiple plugs did not work (some even looked to be a safety hazard), the mirror was broken, the toilet roll holder was broken and the paintwork was seriously in need of a fresh coat. The room was also extremely hot and the valve on the offending radiator was broken so we could not adjust the temperature of the room. Overall this hotel, unfortunately, does not represent good value for money and needs some money spending on it.

Room Tip: Parking is OK £10 per night, but that's not bad for a city, and the walk was 10/15 minutes either...

Booked 2 rooms for son's Birthday treat as he wanted to see the Roman Baths and explore the city. Location was an easy walk into Bath which was great. Having to pay for parking at the hotel not so great. One room booked was spacious and well appointed. The other double was on the top floor (Geese wall paper) and was very cramped around the bed area. Whilst at 1st glance everything looked fine, it soon became apparent that this room had a lack of care, maintenance and attention to detail. 1. Left bedside lamp had no plug attached to an exposed cable. 2. Main ceiling light which hung over the twin beds was missing 2 working light bulbs so it was hard to read at night. 3. Multiple insects were hanging off the main light and as it was over the beds I had to clean it before sleeping. 4.The bathroom was a lovely size and I looked forward to taking a bath but there was no bath plug. 5.The bath on arrival also needed hairs removing from it. 6. Getting into bed, my son and I realised that both beds had not been made properly - neither bed sheet reaching the top of the bed and neither even tucked in all the way round. I made the beds both days. 7. We used the 2 mugs provided for a hot drink on the 1st day. As one had many scratches all over it it was easy to identify. Housekeeping clearly just rinsed these mugs in the bathroom sink and put them back on the table. Not ok. 8. The bathroom window had a notice stuck on it advising that it was 'awaiting repair'. The level of cobwebs and dead insects on this window suggested that it had been 'awaiting repair' for quite some time. 9. One bedroom window did not shut properly and another bedroom sash window was missing its second insulating / noise reducing layer. The noise being on a main road was therefore loud at night and even louder on the 2nd night with a party going on at a nearby property. Breakfast waitress/service very good, swift and friendly - couldn’t do enough to help which was much appreciated. Afternoon/evening reception lady also couldn’t do enough to help - very helpful and went above and beyond to replace absent bath plug and provide another bedside lamp that worked on our 2nd day. She was very efficient and professional. Could be great but attention to detail was missing and that’s a manager’s job (whoever they are). Clearly their eye was not on detail of rooms and level of comfort experienced by guests. The chef should not be heard shouting whilst guests are eating their breakfast. Location great - within easy reach of all activities / sights of Bath. Housekeeping/cleaning let the guest house down overall as did a lack of a Manager’s eye which was a shame. Won't be booking again.

We planned to stay on saturday 16th dec 2023 but my wife got very ill on our trip and we were obliged to travel back to Belgium. Not only our trip was ruined but we were uncomfortable with the fact that we have to pay in full for the unused room. Even the 10 pounds for the parking. We know that’s how it is stipulated at the time of the booking but a little empathy would have been helpful in this unfortunate incident. I didn’t know 72 hours in advance my wife was going to get seriously ill. Neither did she for that matter. We've send a mail with our grieves but never got any answer.

We stayed at the Ayrlington for two nights in late November which coincided with the start of the Christmas market. We had a lower ground room with amazing views of the garden and the Abbey beyond. The view at night was stunning as the Abbey was lit up.The bed was really comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious. However the main thing that stood out for us was the fantastic team of staff working at the Ayrlington. From the staff at reception, to the breakfast team and housekeeping, the service they provided was second to none . We would have no hesitation in recommending the Ayrlington to our family and friends, and have already started spreading the word . Thank you for a wonderful few days.Special thanks toTeri, Menita, Zen and Paula.
