My partner and I escaped our city lives for the weekend in need of a spot of R and R. Gainsborough House did not disappoint. The building is impressive, the rooms manage to be beautifully set out, spacious and yet cosy and the hosts were great - very welcoming, helpful and chatty. The kitchen extension looking out onto the garden... more

My wife and I plus another couple stayed at Gainsborough House for three nights. The two rooms were perfect and our hosts, Anita and Derek , very charming and gracious. We have stayed at many B&B's over the years and this ranked with the best. more

We stayed here for two nights during a short break in East Anglia. We were welcomed as if personal guests of the owners ( and of their friendly small dog!) , and provided with proper tea and homemade cake on arrival. B and B is a new venture for the owners who offer spare rooms in their recently refurbished large... more

We were visiting Bury St. Edmund's and some of the old villages of Suffolk. We needed a nice bed and breakfast and found it in spades with Anita and Derek Evans at Gainsborough House. I can confirm everything that previous conrtibutors have said. We were priviledged to stay here. Anita greeted us like old friends and served us afternoon tea... more

The rooms are superb and all you could possibly need is provided. We had a wonderful breakfast. Continental does not do it justice. Nothing was too much trouble. Our stay was a luxurious treat. Anyone considering going there... more

I've never been terribly attracted to B&Bs - the B is fine but getting up for the B can be a pain. We stayed here on Easter Sunday following our granddaughter's baptism in nearby Great Saxham and were very impressed. It began life as a rather pedestrian 1950s house which has been changed out of all recognition by the skill... more

We saw a feature on Gainsborough House in 'Suffolk' Magazine. The owners, Derek and Anita Evans, painstakingly rebuilt an existing house on the site and started their B&B enterprise at the end of 2008. As we have always wanted to visit the beautiful National Trust property, Ickworth House, which is directly opposite, it gave us an excuse to try their... more

Great little B&B that couldn't be more welcoming or good value for money. Half the price of the rather shabby hotel round the corner with it's torn furniture, this place is spot on. Lovely rooms and the one we stayed in was calm, airy, peaceful, but with everything you need. Lovely shower, big fluffy white towels and a bed so... more
