I stayed one night at this guest house and was not sure what I really thought of it. Although it's not unpleasant in any way,and is quite comfortable, I think there is room for a lot of improvement and the place needs a good revamp. Feels like its stuck in a bit of a 70's/80's time warp, made me feel like I was in my grandparents house 30 years ago, same sort of smell too. My bedroom was of a very good size and the bed was really comfortable but I didn't like the look of the tiles in the shower so decided against using it. Breakfast was OK, beans were a bit stewed for my liking and sausage tasty but very small and could have done with mushrooms. It's really handy for the town and there's parking to the rear of the hotel. My advice would be stay here if you want a homely experience and don't mind not having mod cons. more

I stayed here for a couple of nights whilst working locally. The owner is efficient but perhaps a little brusque at times. My room was comfortable and the price was reasonable. The only disappointment was probably the breakfast which was OK but lacked choice and would have been boring if I had stayed there longer. No fresh fruit, yoghurt or fancy breads. Just serials, English fried breakfast, juice and tea or instant coffee. However there’s parking and the location is great for the centre of Bury St Edmunds which is within easy walking distance. I would stay again if I couldn’t find anything that looked more tempting. more

We are glad you enjoyed your stay here and found our reasonably priced rooms clean and comfortable. We hope you savoured our traditional homecooked English breakfast and, although you didnt find the Continental choices adequate, hopefully you had a chance to sample our homemade marmalade. Welcome to the Dunston again when you are in the area. Many Thanks.
