Because we found it down the back of our headboard, along with a (used) mens hankerfchief! On being told about this, the 'proprietor' proved herself to be less than interested, claiming that she didn't run 'that sort of establishment' - we beg to differ, clearly she does run 'that sort of establishment'. We were offered an insincere apology and nothing... more

I wanted a perfect place to take my husband for our 35th wedding anniversary and this was it! Just entering the house takes your breath away, with the ancient but very homely feel of the hall - it's wonderful timbers, comfortable seating, family photos, honesty bar and large open fireplace with log fire. After a warm welcome from Gill we... more

Welcome was very brief,no offer of assistance with our luggage. No chat about the area or suggestions of where to eat. You cant lock your room door and no safe for our valuables, crazy ! This B&B does not come anywhere near its 5 star gold rating and grossly overpriced relying on past glories under different management when in 1999 was... more

We stayed for a weekend and were bowled over by the interior of the Priory. It is a stunning building and the rooms reflected its history. Ours had a four poster and it was a fun experience climing out of bed and sliding towards the wall without having had a drop to drink! The only criticisms I have are that... more

It was very exciting for us Aussies to stay in such an historic home and even though the room we stayed in had been restored and was a good size it lacked the attention to detail we had previously experienced in other B and B's in the UK. The bathroom was a good size but again lacked things like (shower... more

The building is wonderfully restored. We stayed in the Gallery Chamber, nice size with wooden floor and carved bed. Bathroom was beautiful. Easy off-street parking, and lovely garden and grounds. The room had no lock, nor was there anywhere inside the room to lock any personal belongings. The main door is locked however. Wireless internet was available. The problem is... more

We had passed through Lavenham on a trip to Suffolk two years ago and had spied the Priory. We vowed to return to the area for another visit to The Company Shed seafood restaurant in West Mersea. Having consulted Tripadvisor and the Priory website we booked for a 3 night stay starting Easter Monday. From arrival to departure we were... more

Recently stayed two nights in the Gallery room at The Priory - it was superb! Amazing to be staying in such an old building, which has been superbly restored (and indeed saved from demolition). Our room was very comfortable, and I wished I could take the whole bed home we slept so well! Decor was charmingly done, in character with... more

The review of this hotel for me is easy: The building, bedrooms and standard of the hotel are first class. It really is a fantastic building and is ideally situated. The owners of the building leave an awful lot to be desired. They were not very welcoming at all, throughout the stay it was difficult to get even as much... more
