We chose Guinea House b&b to spend 2 nights over the Valentine's Day weekend - it looked very picturesque on the website, but really the photos didn't do it justice at all.

As there is no b&b sign outside the property, do look for the pink exterior walls so you know that you have arrived. There is parking in the road and luckily we managed to find a space.

We got the impression that Gillian de Lucy prefers to consider this very much her home with the b&b being secondary.

She met us when we arrived and was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area.

There is no hall in the b&b, you walk straight into the family lounge (not for use by guests) and then take a steep staircase up to one of two guest bedrooms. Stayed for two nights at the Guinea House in Lavenham, it is now on Bolton street and not on Shilling street as per Sawdays reviews.

The rooms are fantastic though they do slope considerably and the bed slides towards the far wall through the night. But that's what you get for a stay in a beautifully restored timber house.

My only gripe is that breakfast is 8:30am. Not 8:29 not 8:31.
We asked for a lie in and were told, 8:30am.

So for relaxing lie-ins, not the place to go!

But for the chance to stay in an original centuries old house, definitely recommended.

The town of Lavenham too is well worth a visit.
