Perfect location, friendly staff, nice rooms all in all a good hotel for the price, having read many reviews slagging the hotel off, i was very suprised. I think a lot of people are intent on causing trouble and trashing rooms, hence why they are annoyed with having to pay a cash bond. personally as i wasn't planning on doing... more

The staff were rude and unhelpful. The hotel itself was a dive. For the price, the only thing you are paying for is the location. Centrally located it made getting in and around the city very easy. However, the close proximity of the Bigg Market means you will not be getting to sleep until all the partygoers go home. Thin... more

Many thanks for submitting comments to Trip Advisor. I am disappointed that you found the staff of the hotel to be rude. I will ensure that further staff training is carried out. We are centrally located and this unfortunately, does lead to outside noise.

First the location, absolutely fantastic, shops, nightlife, restraunts all within 2 minutes walk... Then the hotel, first we were told about the CASH bond when we turned up, we were not informed of this when we booked or was it not mentioned when the hotel telephoned to confirm the booking. We had to leave the hotel to get this cash... more

Many thanks for posting your comments on Trip Advisor. Firstly, I am sorry that you were not advised about the bond prior to arrival, I am in the process of reviewing this procedure. Unfortunately, due to the behaviour of some guests previously, the charging of bonds has become necessary. I have taken on board your comment regarding the advertising of...

When we arrived, we were met by a really rude receptionist, as if she'd been working there too long to care about another group of boys checking in. Formalities done, then told we had to pay a £270 deposit between 9 of us, which we never knew about until we were checking in. Not a massive problem but it was... more

Thank you for posting your comments on Trip Advisor regarding your stay. I am sorry that the Receptionist did not greet you in a friendly manner. You can be assured that this will be addressed with the reception team. Unfortunately, we are forced to charge bonds to groups of guests. Although the majority are well behaved some do cause large...

Many thanks for your review on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately we have been suffering some lift difficulties over the past couple of weeks and can only apologise for any inconvenience caused to you and your friends. I am most diappointed to learn that you found the room to be below standard. As you state we are redecorating the rooms over time,...

As a fellow hotel manager myself, I was very impressed with the room. I must say the previous review is quite misleading as the hotel cannot be faulted for rowdy guests, or does not need to allow only one type of guest! How silly! Booked only on the Sunday before travelling up, £49 for a room that size was very... more

When we got in at 1am we went to bed. At 4am we were woken by the group returning to their room. They were shouting, banging around, music was being played and this went on all night, blatantly doing unsavoury things to keep themselves awake all night! It was still going on at midday the next morning when we left to... more

Many thanks for your comments regarding your stay at the Newgate Hotel. Unfortunately, it is difficult, especially on a weekend such as the Great North Run, to assess the mix of business. As many persons booking the hotel do so on websites, we have no knowledge of them until their arrival. At the weekend past we were aware of some...

There are some truly awful reviews on tripadvisor so naturally we were a little concerned, but as it turned out we needn't have worried. The reviews are mostly historic and having spoken with the barman and read the posting from the Manager, the hotel closed in Jan 2009 and only re-opened in late June 2009 following some refurbishment work, which... more

This hotel is by far the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. The bathroom was very unclean, grim in the toilet and shower, I washed my hair over the shower as it was so bad I did not even want to get in. The carpet looked as if it hadden't been hoovered in weeks. The whole place looked as... more

Had to sleep in bathroom due to noise from stag nights and hen parties and buses. Room windows only single glazed. i filled in feedback form but no response. You'd be better in a B&B at a fraction of the price. If you can travel a few few miles, recommend innkeepers lodge in Cramlington more
