I come from Newcastle and have reviewed the Malmaison, the Marriot and the Hilton, as well as Matfen Hall (all possibly under another name that I later couldn't log into, so had to start this one up, which rather annoyed me; Tripadvisor please note). Really Newcastle doesn't have a thoroughly great hotel. They all have drawbacks. I have always avoided... more

I thought the Copthorne OK, nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews on here. Alright its not the cheapest but to be fait its OK. Great views of the river & the staff were extremely helpful & friendly, especially the concierge! My room was huge with a really comfortable bed and all facilities worked perfectly well. I could... more

Dirty and cold. Room heaters didn't work. Provided a small fan heater but it was not safety checked and was held together with tape - unsafe. Worst of all was the bathroom with the shower area covered in black mould - not what you expect from a 4 star hotel. I took photographs (attached) and forwarded them to the management... more

I've stayed in this hotel a number of times. Location-wise, it's very good - on the river, a couple of minutes to everywhere. But, it's a soulless big chain hotel, designed for the business traveller. I couldn't believe that the only way you can get wireless access is in the communal areas which i think is just appalling. Admittedly access... more

Stayed one night on business. Had stayed there about 10 years ago when the hotlel was relatively new and that had been a good experience. It has gone downhill and does not merit 4 stars. The decorations are unaltered from my first stay. The towels are a little less white and getting a bit tired. The bathrooms are adequate but... more

Stayed here for 4 nights in Feb 08 for business at a corporate rate of £85/night. Location is great - next to the river and close to all the restaurant and bars of Quayside. Lobby is large and modern. Breakfast room is pleasant enough. But once you exit the lifts, enroute to your room, the decor is a different story.... more

I was booked into the Copthorne by my work as I was attending a nearby conference. I must admit I was very apprehensive about staying after all the negative reviews i read. I must admit I found my whole experience here fine. Maybe not 4 star, but the rooms were a good size and they were clean. The mattress was... more

Service unfriendly. Rooms so hot, had to be moved. No difference at all in the club rooms and standard room - not worth the money for an upgrade. Rooms shabby and unclean. Complained numerous times but nothing was done about it. This is definitley not a 4 star hotel. more

Just returned from a 2 night stay. The location was excellent and the check in extremely efficient. The room was ok, if a little worn but the floor to ceiling window gave a spectacular view of the River and bridges. The small spa is also very nice. We decided to eat breakfast, on the first morning, which turned out to... more

Myself and my wife booked in to the Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle for a weekend between Christmas and New Year 2007. We picked this hotel over Jurys simply because the Copthorne was rated 4 star. The good was that the reception staff in particular were very helpful - the rest was much more two star. Our bedroom overlooked the Tyne which... more
