Spent two nights with friend at Malmaison. Fantastic location next to Gateshead Millennium Bridge with plenty of parking in the multi-storey behind. Room excellent with two tv's, a sofa and enough unguents in bathroom to moisturise an elephant (never actually tried though...), but with views of aforesaid carpark. Great location, very stylish but not sure about the black walls, carpets and furniture. Very gloomy. Very trendy bar and restaurant fully of "media types" but very pleasant and good TV;s, great shower and really comfy bed. I have stayed in other hotels in the Malmaison chain and have always enjoyed my stay but I was completely underwhelmed by the Newcastle Hotel. Just to echo the other reviews: room was very plush and the staff were extra friendly and helpful. I was in room 221 which is directly over the bar area and I couldn't hear any noise at all despite going to bed early. i stayed at the hotel in march this year. I had a fantastic time. The staff were excellent esp the reception staff who went over and upon there call of duty.
