Detailed Reviews
We stayed in a Clubman room for one night and it really was brilliant - as good as, if not better than having a suite in a hotel. It was very spacious and clean, with lots of added extras; an illy espresso machine, selection of teas and hot chocolate, cereal, the fruit and juicer, games, and we were given a card, chocolates and bottle of wine as it was a trip for my partner’s birthday which was a really lovely touch. The view was great. The toiletries are supplied in large bottles so although you can’t take them home, you won’t run out during your stay and they smell divine. You can order deliveries from a multitude of local restaurants using the proprietary online providers and it’s delivered to your door. There were lots of little things that just showed a lot of thought and care has gone into these apartments and to making sure you have everything you need. We’ll definitely be back next time we stay in Birmingham. Thank you!

This iconic building was transformed from its previous office space to apartments and studios in 2007/2008.
Away from home the hotel menu can become dull so this makes a welcome change and I noticed deliveroo bringing their wares to the reception.
The well equipped studios even come with electric citrus squeezer and they even provide the fruit.
A pint of milk, a sachet of granola and porridge oats plus a tasty coffee was a real treat.
Bathroom is small but does what’s needed and has decent sized towels
This would be my preferred place to stay when working or visiting Birmingham - thank you

Hello Julie We were delighted to hear you appreciated all the little extras that we provide for our guests. Often it is the little touches that make the difference between a good stay and a great stay. We’re very fond of our Minis apartments, they are one of our smallest apartments types but make a great place to stay while being away from home. We do hope to welcome you back again soon when restrictions ease. Thanks again. Best wishes Tracey

We love this place! We come here a few times each year and they never fail to disappoint. The rooms have incredible views, fantastic floor to ceiling sliding doors that bring the outside in, stylish decor, comfortable beds with white cotton sheets, hot power shower, free wi-fi and everything looks and feels clean. We like all of the extras on arrival like the milk, porridge and fresh oranges ready to juice for breakfast the next morning. A really nice touch! The staff are very helpful, efficient and polite which makes a massive difference to the whole experience. You really won't be disappointed - we would highly recommend.

Wow Riberac74, thank you for such a lovely review. We were all so delighted to read it. All of us try to go above and beyond to make sure our guests have a memorable experience. We are glad you liked our apartments and you found them stylish and comfortable, with everything you need to have a wonderful stay. We make sure we cover the basics and then go the extra mile making sure you have a good start to your day with a cup of locally-roasted coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Yes, the views really do take your breath away, especially in the evening when the city lights up. We would love to welcome you back to Staying Cool in the future. Best wishes, Staying Cool Team

I booked a studio apartment for my partner and I to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We were looking to have a weekend away somewhere with a view but also at a reasonable price as it coincided with the Bank Holiday weekend and the relaxed lockdown restrictions.
On arrival, we received a warm and friendly welcome from the staff and to our surprise, an upgrade to a one bedroom apartment due to it being our anniversary.
The apartment itself was spacious, nicely decorated and very clean and the views across the city were spectacular throughout the day and night.
A few more little touches were included in the room to make it special for our anniversary so my partner and I were very grateful and appreciative of the extra effort that was made on our behalf.
I liked the fact that fresh oranges were provided along with a selection of teas and coffee. My partner liked the coffee machine so much that he wants to buy one! Breakfast cereals and decent quality snacks were also provided (at an additional cost) so you didn't have to go food shopping unless you needed to.
Overall we had a fantastic stay and really enjoyed the apartment, its central location and awesome views. It's very easy to get to by train or coach and parking very accessible too.
We will definitely stay again and would happily recommend Staying Cool at the Rotunda to anyone!

As anyone can see from the photos, the views are incredible. We absolutely loved seeing the city this way, and of course being in the very heart of Birmingham for every kind of food or shopping you could want. Fantastic.
Having said that, I feel the rooms are a bit tired - the bathroom especially with broken tiles/grout, a mouldy shower seal and stains in the bath. These apartments are advertised as 4 star, I'm sure they were when new but not now. Also it was a bit disappointing that of three opening windows, only one could actually be opened, the others were sealed with duct tape with handles removed.
Some things I found slightly odd - I'd rather have a dishwasher than a washing machine for example. And having one bottle of handwash/showergel you need to move from sink to bath seems a bit mean, especially as the guest info emphasises that you don't need to bring toiletries as they are provided. Even in a basic hotel you get separate soap and showergel.
We were right by the lifts, and you can hear them working day and night - we got used to that once we realised what it was, but it might bother some people. I'm not sure the soundproofing is brilliant. As I found at 4am, if your next door neighbours are having some (ahem) 'couple time', the 10 foot high photo directly above your head in bed bangs against the wall fairly alarmingly!
Overall the location and view cannot be bettered, but the maintenance of the property needs to be improved. It would be a shame if these incredible apartments got any more tired than they are now.

We stayed in the Mini studio apartment and had a fantastic time. The space is used excellently in the apartment with a stylish dining table, comfortable lounge area, high quality bathroom and huge bed. The kitchen was very well equipped and we're able to make use and cook one evening. I made great use of the espresso coffee pod machine and the fruit juicer was a really nice surprise. The apartment had magnificent views and thick curtains to help us sleep at night. I found the reception staff very friendly and helpful and the Rotunda is a perfect location from the train station and restaurants or shops.
I'd highly recommend Staying Cool at The Rotunda.

We stopped here at the end of November (sorry for the late review) but definitely could not not leave a review for this not so little gem in Birmingham. Having lived about 18 miles away from Brum for years now, the rotunda is one of those iconic places you MUST stay in at least once in your life!
We stopped for a whole weekend as we had two concerts on consecutive nights booked - late birthday gifts cancelled previously due to covid. Rather than travel into town both days and nights we decided to stop. My Partner is from Brum and used to walkpast the Rotunda every day when he was travelling to school. He commented at how it was one of the places you always saw and wondered about... we are both so glad we stayed.
The place was spotlessly clean. There was milk, coffee, tea and fresh fruit to make fresh juice in the morning, which was very welcome. We were also delighted to find a bottle of Prosecco upon arrival for our special weekend. The kitchen was plenty equipped; fridge, coffee machine, kettle, washing machine, plates, cutlery and pans. There was also an assortment of locally sourced snacks and drinks which were delicious too! We loved how everything was Birmingham based!
The location is fantastic. A 3 minute walk from New Street Station, a 30 second walk from the Bull ring and 10 minutes to all the arenas and concert venues. The view from the room was amazing; panoramic views of Birmingham. On our last morning we were lucky enough to experience the view blanketed with snow! Stunning!
The windows open floor to ceiling (with a safety barrier) which just tops the experience. As for reading reviews saying its dangerous and don't take children, surely any parent would make an informed decision knowing their children whether to open the window fully. They cannot be opened easily by a child either, due to safety mechanisms!!
Yes, you can sometimes hear a little noise from the lift but it was nothing to stop us from enjoying our stay or preventing us from sleeping! You ARE in a big round building after all, its not as though they can hide the lifts in the corners of the building!
We were there for the opening weekend of the German Christmas markets and the town was very busy but we honestly did not hear any noise from outside (except when we opened the window).
Would I stop again?? You bet! I will be in touch with Gavin and his amazing team very soon to arrange another weekend in the summer for my daughters birthday!

A few weeks ago I took my girlfriend away for the weekend for a her birthday. I chose to stay at Staying Cool due to it being a tall building and having a good chance of some views! I booked a clubman room and requested rose petals on the bed. Parking was easy at the bull ring and it is only a short walk. The parking ticket is reduced if you show the hotel to £15 which is a bonus. We checked in at 3pm and were met by two ladies who were really welcoming! They informed us that we had been upgraded to the penthouse! Things like this never happen to us so we were really excited. We took the lift to the top floor and entered our room. The views instantly hit us as we walked in, spectacular! There was a birthday card on the kitchen worktop addressed to my partner and a free bottle of Prosecco in the fridge. We really felt like celebrities with the levels that the staff had gone too! The room was very clean and the wrap around balcony was absolutely huge! The kitchen had everything you would need and came well equipped. The bed was very comfy and they remembered the rose petals. The bathroom was good with good shower pressure and heat. We loved the room so much that after going out for a meal we returned to enjoy some drinks and the night time skyline view instead of staying out. We genuinely really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return! Thank you!

I am absolutely appalled and disappointed at the level of costumer service experienced on immediate arrival at ratunda. On entering the lobby we was encountered by receptionist named Kamila and a security guard.
We were not greeted nor welcomed after having a long journey to Birmingham. The first question asked “What is the equipment?” whilst standing with very heavy luggage. I confirmed that I was carrying a ring light, to which the security guard immediately assumed and accused myself of having intentions of using the apartment for videography purposes.
This was very unwelcoming and his tone was extremely disrespectful. The security went on to state what felt like was a threat that deposit will be immediately lost should the t’s and c’s of the contract at staying cool be breached.
At this point Kamila had not even checked me in nor was I actually handed the paper contract to gain opportunity of reading this myself. I felt judged, victimised, extremely uncomfortable and humiliated - the guards approach was dismissive, patronising and condensing.
Moments after check in, I received visitors into the apartment who were visiting for a short period in the evening. The security guard in question, came to the apartment and again assumed that my visitors were extra guests to the apartment booking.
He again reinforced t’s and c’s regarding videography and demanded for the supposedly extra guests to leave. His approach was again extremely judgmental, patronising and intimidating. I attempted to express myself but he was dismissive and his assumptions made me fee extremely uncomfortable.
Less than an hour after check in I left the apartment, as the experience from the on-set was very upsetting, I felt uneasy and distressed. I handed the keys back to Kamila and she informed me that I will be receiving a phone call from a member of management regarding my experience.
I am a make up artist who has travelled from London for a shoot scheduled for Monday morning near the City Centre. I should not be in a position where I should be justifying myself for my stay and to be made to feel judged.
Staying cool is advertised as a luxurious 5* apartments/stay but in this instance the service definitely did not reflect this. The guard refused to inform us of his name whilst continuously interjecting my conversation with Kamila. I appreciate he had a duty to carry but his demeanour was unprofessional and unacceptable.

Response from Alex M, General Manager at Staying Cool at Rotunda
Responded 4 Mar 2020
Hi Rackcityj Firstly I am really sorry to hear that you feel either victimised or humiliated, or worse both. All of our team here at Staying Cool go above and beyond to ensure every guest has an amazing stay with us, I am sorry that you do not appear to have had that. Upon your arrival at the building it was noted that you had a large camera bag. Our security guard did indeed note this and as such inquisitively asked what your plans were for the stay. During your check in the house rules were re-affirmed to you by both the security guard and Kamila from our Guest Relations team. We do this with all guests on check in and this is for your benefit, to ensure your full understanding and enjoyment of your apartment, plus the benefit of other guests to ensure they are not disturbed. After check in we noted a number of other people trying to enter your apartment, above that of the maximum allowed for your apartment type. As this is a breach of the previously mentioned house rules, Kamila knocked on your apartment to discuss. Upon answering the door it was clearly visible from the doorway that commercial filming was taking place. We noted a number of items of lighting equipment and additional guests. At this point you were informed of the breach and the lose of your deposit as a result. Our house rules are there to protect our guests. We do everything we can to prevent disturbances from other guests and ensure everyone has the same level of enjoyment at Staying Cool. Should you wish to discuss your stay further, you are more than welcome to give me a call. Kind Regards Alex General Manager

Hi JayDee. Apologies for the delay in replying to this. It is the first time the question has popped up for me. I know this answer is too late for you but hopefully it will be useful to another business guest. You can't park in front of the shutters as access is needed 24/7but you can pull up and unload any heavy/large items. I hope that's helpful. The nearest overnight parking is at the Bullring car park which is approx 400m walk away. Best wishes Tracey

Very near, you have to use main bull ring car park for shopping area, only 5 minutes walk.
No. The rotunda is adjacent to the bullring. The whole area is pedestrianised
