This is our fourth visit to The Royal Oak and for the past three occasions we have stayed in the deluxe flint cottage at the rear of the pub. Each time it gets better and better. We suffered a delay at the hands of Flybe (flying Leeds to Southampton) which meant we missed out dining in the excellent restaurant on... more

His opinion: Having returned from an overnight stay at The Royal Oak and after reading some of the reviews I felt compelled to add my own comments of our recent stay. Our room which generally well appointed suffered from noise disturbance from the kitchen extract and the shower ran very hot and cold when it had any pressure at all-... more

Needing a room at short notice for the second night of a two night stay, following a disastrous first night elsewhere (but that's another story), driving round the villages, looking at dingy pubs and smelly B&Bs, we happened upon the Royal Oak, where there was but one spare room. Having asked to look at the room before confirming, it was... more

We stayed over friday & saturday as we were at the theatre,, The bedroom was above the pub, lovely and bright with beautiful views over the fields, very quiet at all times. Bathroom big and bright with a great power shower, plenty of towels etc. Dinner on friday , very good although menu slightly limited with a wine list that... more

My husband and I,plus friends have stayed here several times over the last few years and have very fond memories of it. Beautiful pub, lovely food with great rooms and staff very friendly plus a great location in a lovely village. We often go to West Wittering beach which is wonderful and pop into the Royal Oak for a meal... more

We booked their two bedroomed flint cottage a few yards from the pub. Very much the old english cottage with atmospheric small roms and a steep stair case but very well fitted out [the coffee maker was so good we went out and bought one for our house!] and it felt like a serious treat to stay there. The pub... more

The Royal Oak was lovely! Stayed for a weekend and used it as a base for visiting Fontwell Races. It's in a little village about 2 miles out of Chichester. Looks lovely from the outside. We stayed in one of the Sussex Barn rooms. They are at the back of the pub, so you don't get noise from the pub.... more

Stayed at the Royal Oak with friends who have stayed before. Stayed in room 2 Sussex Barn which was small but comfortable. Well equipped room and lovely bathroom - not a lot of space for clothes some of which had to remain in suitcase. My wife said the freeby bathroom cosmetics were very good. CDs and DVDs in room too.... more

We have just stayed in one of the cottages attached to The Royal Oak and had a superb weekend. The welcome was friendly and the cottage (although small from the outside) was spacious and very well equipped with every mod-con. Please note: the cottage is true to its period, so expect to duck! We stayed with a young child who... more

We stayed in the sussex barn which was great (think there are two sussex barn rooms?) First impression was that the room was quite small (as was the bed...and a bit soft...) but on the definite plus side the bathroom was huge with beautiful fittings - better than many a five star hotel in my opinion! Also there were lots... more
