Quirky place with an eclectic clientele. Good selection of beers and lots of atmosphere when the pub got busy – gas-lit bar! - and there was music on downstairs when we were there. Staff friendly and helpful.

We found the staff to be friendly and amiable. Tidy rooms. The pub is great with a fine selection of ales and regular live music events. Some rough look types seem to be around, which felt a little intimidating but not actual problems. Would stay again for no thrills budget lodging.

They don't pretend to be upmarket and you get what you pay for. Room was basic but clean, staff were friendly, and helpful. Breakfast was good, and bar was good with friendly customers. Would definitely go back if I were in the area.

We booked three rooms which were clean and tidy, although a little old fashioned. Some of the other "residents" appeared to be homeless people who were being accommodated on a longer term basis. I booked the New Beehive rather than the Premier Inn or Grand Victoria (both about the same price) as I love real ales and usually would be quite happy with pub standard accommodation. Cons: shower, bed, breakfast, security, the advertised wifi does not work in the rooms. Pros: Quiet, nice bar, cheap. The shower was appalling. If you stumbled upon this place without realising what it is then you might be disappointed.
