Our intentions were to discover English countryside. I am surprised by the expectations of other reviewers. I would have been disappointed to find anything but the New Inn and its people! This is not London/Paris or Rome. You'd better look for a Sheraton then. We were delighted by spending the evening chatting to the locals. They were friendly, funny and... more

Having read some of the reviews prior to booking we were perhaps a little apprehensive, but time was marching on and we badly needed accommodation organised somewhere in that general area BEFORE leaving Australia. Once in England we got a bit concerned about it and decided on a 'dummy run' several nights before the actual three day/multi room booking we... more

It's about expectations, isn't it. If you are looking for a small country inn where the locals gather for Sunday Roast or a pint, this is the place. Best food on our trip; home cooking really. From one of our bed room windows we watched pheasants play in a field, the ancient Ridgeway just a little way beyond ... the... more

From the website and from standing outside, the new inn seems like a quaint little English pub/B&B, however things are crtainly different when you get inside. When friends ask me what it's like there I say "It's alllright"! That's just about it. It's alright, it's not good, it's not a luxurious stay, but if you just want somewhere to put... more

The New Inn B&B is about 1 mile from the stones at Avebury. It seemed like the menu was written, the letting rooms converted and the Inn decorated in the 1970’s. Although we found it perfectly clean and the linen of good quality, it was like stepping back in time. Breakfast had to be pre-ordered upon check in, with a... more

Probably the worst B&B I've ever spent a night in - I can only describe it was like something out of the League of Gentlemen comedy episodes. Bedroom furniture made out of plywood, windows black with mildew, curtains falling down, shower needed a good scrub with bleach. Warm wine (was offered ice cubes!), warm beer and the bar closed at... more

I would suggest the verbose essay by 'ArstLickensucker' says more about the reviewer than the reviewed. The New Inn is a modest B&B in an early 19th-century building that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. Our room was small with basic furniture, but it was clean and comfortable with a good view towards Windmill Hill. The proprietor was perfectly... more

We stayed at the New Inn from September 23-26th, 2008. We booked this place with some hesitation after reading all the ill reports on this site. However there was one which was the opposite of all the others. So we chose to try it. I am not sure where the person stayed that listed their report on September 9th. It... more

Our whistle stop tour around Wiltshire ended with a stop over in Avebury to see the magnificent Stone Circle. I’d always wanted to see Avebury ever since I was a child – a desire borne out of watching the haunting series Children of the Stones and I was also pleased my partner felt the same. Anyone else remember it? Because... more

We had a disappointing stay at the New Inn, the breakfast was poor not what you expect at £30 a person, the rooms average, the shower did not drain away. We thought the Pub would be nice a place to stay because of the hospitality you would find there in the evenings, not so the pub was not open to... more
