We should have heeded the warning signs when we sat down having paid for our food in advance. Sticky tables. Poor decor/ funiture. We opted for the Sunday roast which by the waitress's own admission had been pre-cooked. The meat was tough and tasteless. Vegetables were clearly overdone and tasteless. Yes we complained. The duty manager was polite and apologetic... more

This hotel is in a beaultiful World Herritage site and I dread to think what tourists make of it. Walked in , sat down then wondered what the dreadful smell was. The carpet was threadbare and smelly. Then as I lifted up the menu my forearms stuck to the table, got up and walked out. but could smell the place... more

We didnt stay here although we were thinking about it before we had dinner. The food to be honest was not bad at all.Just what you expect when eating in a "two for a tenner" basis. However it was the general tatty look of the interior that put us off any thoughts of staying. The table we ate at was sticky all... more

The Red Lion used to be a good food pub that was clean and well cared for. I stayed at the Lodge next door for 5 nights and ended up eating fruit for dinner as I refused to eat at the Red Lion. The bathroom was utterly disgusting and I heard from high school age kids who worked there from... more

Recently ventured to this pub for an evening meal with some friends. We all had last been to this pub around two years ago. Lovely location and we all loved the aspect of the place as it is haunted,. However cleanliness has a lot to be desired, Obviously the cleaner only looks across at face distance. Look above head height... more

We stayed one night at the Red Lion, and had a very enjoyable stay. Our room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. The bathroom could use some modernizing, but it wasn't bad- all I need is a shower, a toilet, and a sink anyway, and that's what it had. We spent our evening hanging out in the pub, had a... more

we did not stop over night in the pub. We stopped for sunday lunch. thinking this was a charming country pub. The ale was good but the sunday lunch lacked flavour, presentation and most of all for the price, vegetables. The food was also luke warm with the food coming out in a pasta plate to make it look more.... more

Stayed at this inn for 2 nights over Easter 2007. The old thatched inn is perfectly located right in the middle of the ancient stone circle and is reputedly haunted! It is full of character and atmosphere and during our stay was packed during the daytime. It is the only 'watering hole' in the charming little village of Avebury, but... more
