Stayed here with my wife for one night while visiting Stonehenge. Salisbury was recommended by a fellow Brit passenger on our 12 day cruise, so we thought we would give it a try. The Red Lion was built to house the workers building the nearby cathedral and I believe the mattress on our bed was used by the builders of... more

we stayed in this hotel with friends. This is a quintessential coaching inn with lots of character and centrally located. The staff are pleasant and helpful and we were very impressed with the breakfast. The food used was of a superior quality,(no pink sausages here) and was well cooked and presented. However, there are problems with this hotel. There does... more

Location is great but what little parking there is is now restricted for disabled residents even when there are none (I think staff use it too). You are expected to use public car parks which adds £5 per day to your costs. As noted in other reviews, the hotel is a warren so we had someone show us the way,... more

Really enjoyed my three night stay here. The hotel is spotlessly clean and full of character. Like previous reviewers I found the layout baffling - lots of corridors and staircases - but also fun. The room had been newly decorated with lovelty fabrics, but the bathroom was a bit dated. My room was on the side street which was noisy... more

I just finished a two night stay and it was delightful. The room is full of character and quite comfortable. The breakfast was good and the staff quite attentive. I ate two meals here and the food was good. The staff is very considerate and came up at night to turn my heater as I couldn't figure it out. The... more

Given what I had read about this hotel it wasn't my first choice but overall a pleasant stay. The staff were helpful, pleasant and attentive. The breakfast service was excellent, food was hot and well presented. I had two meals in the bar and again the service was excellent and the food was of good quality. The room I stayed... more

A delightfully helpful receptionist was enough to overcome our shock at the price of a room at this three-star hotel. She even upgraded us to their 3 room suite which was comfortable and suitably decorated for a building of its age. The bar food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Wi-fi was available at a reasonable price.... more

We stayed only one night between seeing Stonehenge and a Princess cruise out of Southhampton. The staff was extremely helpful and John the night manager went out of his way to help us - we had lost a passport and had to make many calls to the US etc. He served us sandwiches and drinks well pass the "normal" hours... more

We booked and stayed here on the August Bank Holiday. Double Room was spacious, with extra seating and tables. It was at the front of the property and overlooked the main street below in the centre of town. We were awoken during the night by people emptying out of the nightclub opposite around 3am. Shouting and singing in the street... more

PROS: Great location, historic building, friendly staff, reception open all night. CONS: Expensive for a small room with a lumpy bed and that could have used a more thorough cleaning. We were arriving late into Salisbury without a car, so it was the best of limited options for us, but I would look for better value next time. more
