We stayed at Monkey island for a night and really enjoyed it. The location is fantastic. We agree with a lot of the other comments that the rooms are a bit shabby. The other comment we have is about the food. We ate dinner there. The food is on the pricey side. Okay if it's high quiality, but it really... more

Stayed for a 2 day business meeitng, the hotel is in a beautfiul location and in its prime must have been amazing. It is now a little dated and it seems people are staying away because of that which is a shame - the hotel seemed almost empty apart from the group I was with. The staff we met were... more

My partner and I were visiting The Fat Duck for the tasting Sunday lunch (interesting but food virtually inedible - maybe our palates don't understand what Heston is getting at!). I chose Monkey Island as it was close to the Fat Duck and I was intrigued by the location (island on the Thames). It was as we expected - a... more

My partner and I recently ate Afternoon Tea on a warm (but slightly windy) September afternoon and were very disappointed. The quality of the afternoon tea was appalling. We chose to have the two most expensive afternoon teas which are served at the hotel, I choose the most expensive as I was tempted by the additional fresh pastries which were... more

Stayed for one night with husband (who has stayed there before). Room was lovely and spacious - apparently we were not in a room that had the new tvs but not a problem as the weather was too nice to be inside anyway. Nice touch was the fan in the room which was definetely a god send. Ate in the... more

Yesterday we took my mother for cream tea to the Monkey island Hotel. We didn't stay there but had the most wonderful tea out on the lawns by the river. The weather was fantastic, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive, and there were definately NO peacocks. i got married there 12 years ago and it was wonderful... more

I treated my partner to a surprise stay at the Monkey Island Hotel for his birthday and what a treat! Spectacular grounds, beautiful Regency buildings completely surrounded by the River. Rabbits, squirrels, ducks and peacocks have made the island their home and it was fabulous to gaze out of the window and see them in the grounds. We had a... more

We were expecting something pretty tired and mediocre from all the reviews - but our two night stay turned out to be really quite magical. Admittedly it was over three days of the heatwave when the day's heat lingered on late into the evenings, so that we could sit out late while the sun slowly went down over the lawns... more

wanted a place to stay in Bray, that was walking distance from the Fat duck. This is about 10 minutes walk down a quiet road, so very handy. They hotel itself is set in lovely grounds, but was really dated. The decor in the room looked unchanged since the 80's and the whole feel was just a bit chintzy. We... more
