Staff were polite and helpful. My room was spacious and very clean. Wish I'd have found the restaurant in the evening because the standard of service was fantastic for breakfast! The restaurant overlooks the river and the staff were professional! The barman, chap who showed us our rooms ,seemed to be running around doing everything else but was very polite... more

We had three comfortable days at very reasonable rates. We had a great view from our spacious room and received excellent service. This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel this year, which must say something. We like the town and the walking in the area. more

I don't think it's fair to expect The Ritz in a small village in rural Wales, however I do think that certain standards should be met. The reception staff were very accommodating and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was very pleasant. My partner and I stayed in room 106 and we found this to be ideal. Yes it was a... more

The weekend was for my husband for his 60th birthday and we wanted somewhere special and I don’t think we found it in the Royal Hotel. The room (204) has lovely views over the river and town and was almost worth the climb up several steep stairs. However, the carpets are threadbare and smelt musty and the bathroom really needs... more

We had a long weekend at The Royal in Llangollen in room 201. The room was lovely, much better than we were expecting. It's not modern and the floor creaked a bit, but we had a beautiful view over the river and bridge. There was some noise from the town traffic/people, but the sound of the river meant it wasn't... more

Stayed for 2 nights on a 5oth Birthday trip with a group of 10 men. The room(104) although a decent size with twin beds was dirty. One quilt had a burn mark on it. The room was freezing as where all the others. We ended up going on a raiding party for an electric heater. Bathroom was small, poor water... more

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Royal. The location is good and we had no problem with car parking. The room we were allocated was very good, clean and tidy. The hotel itsself is dated and is obviously being run on a tight budget. The downside to the stay was the breakfast. The first morning,... more

I was in the area for a wedding reception and booked the hotel in advance because of its ideal location (centre of town and next to the river) plus some good reports on tripmaster but was very disappointed by several hygene factors. The location of the Hotel is excellent and the ground floor public rooms are kept to a reasonable... more

I was visiting Llangollen with my mum and my son on a day trip but we threw in a toothbrush just in case. We were ideally thinking about a cheap little B&B but walked in to the Royal, just to have a look due to its superb location. The chap who greeted us offered us the room key and advised... more
