This was my worst hotel experience for a long time. So-called double room was so small we had to walk sideways to get round the bed. Only one bedside table, TV so big it took up much of the very limited desk space, but reception was awful. Bath chipped and surrounded by mould. Room on second floor with no lift.... more

Churchills is in a nice suburby part of Cardiff, around a couple of miles from the city centre. I stayed there before around 8 years ago and was given a grotty little single room so didn't make the effort to stay there again... Eight years later - have things improved? It is really hard finding a decent place to stay in Cardiff and I think Churchills is a good option. I stayed in one of the mews cottages which are basically mini-suites offering a bedroom, en suite and living room with sofa bed. Was plenty of room for the three of us and only cost £100 per night. Where do I start? Uninterested staff? Smoky, very poky room in need of refurbishment? Salmon served at dinner that was actually still frozen (not just cold) in the middle? (They seemed surprised that I thought there was anything wrong with it). Uninspired bar. Would never ever return. more

This is a small but very nice hotel quite close to city centre. Staff friendly. We stayed in the mews cottages. Large bedroom with two large sofas downstairs. Food good. Good value for money. more
