My daughter and a friend were looking forward to a camping experience, being both their first trip away without parents. We chose a quiet spot, not too near the main town and booked three nights for them in a large tent. After much excitement they set off on a Friday afternoon, hoping to get set up before the threatened wet weather. On arrival at the site, they were told that the site would not accept two people of the same gender sharing a tent. My husband explained the situation, assuring the proprietor that they were friends who had been at school together. Nevertheless they were turned away and had to go in search of another site. I am appalled that they should have been turned away without warning. Luckily they had cadged a lift down or they would have been trekking around with their camping gear for who knows how long.
