Possibly one of the more surreal experiences I've had was the Waterloo in Newport Lets be honest, nobody would choose to holiday in newport, its a kind of post apocolyptic post thatcher disaster movie in the making, the businesses that havent shut shop and gone west are closing down and the town centre is being slowly taken over by a... Situated in a very run down area this hotel is a great example of what can be achieved by people with vision. Well restored and retaining many of its original features, the hotel is full of character with many fascinating architectural details and period fittings. My room was large and comfortable with good views of the historic transporter bridge. Shame... More

Stayed 2 nights at this quirky Victorian listed Hotel opposite the Newport Transporter Bridge. The area is quite grim but don't be put off. The rooms at the Waterloo are large and comfortable and the service friendly and helpful. A welcome change from the usual bland chain hotels. The food was good, with a wide ranging menu. It was just... More

Newport has sadly become very rundown in recent years although the people remain as lovely as ever. Stayed at this hotel with work and was a little apprehensive at first but the warmth of the welcome and the quirkiness of the bar area soon won me over. However it was the delicious food that made the experience so special. I... More

As the taxi took me to the Waterloo Hotel from the station I realised it wasn't the best of areas, spotting boarded-up shops, burned-out pubs, and a few abandoned car tyres on the pavements. I was glad I hadn't driven, and after a long journey I was looking forward to a rest. On arrival I found all of the doors... More

I have just stayed in The Waterloo hotel. I arrived by motorcycle and was thoughtfully directed to a more secluded parking space where the bike would not be seen from the road. after a wonderful early dinner and thoroughly enjoying the old style bits and bobs of the bar retired to a pleasant, warm room with the best shower head... We spent two nights here in February 2013. Having found the hotel at the very last minute, we were delighted to find such a friendly, welcoming place to stay. The room was large and warm, the bed comfortable, the food (particularly the steak) was great, the price was very reasonable, and the staff were unfailingly friendly and full of local... More

Lovely food in a great old pub which takes you back in time. The early bird menu is excellent value though the service was, on this occasion, a but random. For example, extra side orders were forgotten, the pork was advertised as including an apple element (which was not present in the dish) and upon request we were given a... More

We had our wedding reception at the hotel in December. From the start, Bob and Teri were brilliant and helped us make the day exactly what we wanted. Lots of our friends had never been to the hotel before and were absolutely wowed by the bar and decor - if you want something a bit different then it's a perfect... More

Having just arrived I am smarting somewhat, compared to what I was expecting. the location is in the docks area of Newport, in the industrial sector right on a busy road and even with all my many windows and curtains closed across, my albeit well appointed room, the noise is still very present, which does not bode well! Not only... More
