I stayed here for one night only while visiting my daughter at college. The whole place is very dated in terms of decor, and everything is worn and a little grubby-looking. But it was only £50 for a single room and I guess you don't expect luxury for that. However, what was really bad was the service. We had booked... more

I stayed here for one night to attend a rugby game in Newport. Even though I arrived well in advance of the check in time (I had notified the hotel I would be arriving early prior to my arrival) the lady on the reception desk gave me a room without problem. The room was small and looked out (via the... more

Having read through some other people's reviews, I will start by saying that the decorating has clearly been done now, there are no paint fumes and breakfast is excellent. The exterior of the building is beautiful and it does "look" like a lovely place to stay. However, the lift still does not work and either it's constantly breaking down, or... more

Booked a four night stay, breakfast and staff were ok but info on website is misleading to what you get in the actual hotel. They said that internet was free, but asked to pay for it at the hotel. Rooms and corridors were very stuffy and also smelt of paint, ventilation is needed all round! The lift was out of... more

I have stayed at the King's Hotel in Newport on three occasions, the most recent being in May 2008. Everything about the hotel is of a very high standard, the staff are very pleasant, obliging and nothing is too much trouble for them. I also feel I have to make a special mention about the quality of the food which... more

The King's Hotel, like the Walkabout Hotel down the road, are the two main hotels in Newport town centre. Obviously enjoying prime location for travel links, and everything else you want to get up to in Newport. The staff on the desk are very friendly, and the wee woman who serves breakfast in the morning is a gem. The breakfast... more

Feels like a hotel stuck in a time warp - a hotel from the the late 1970s early 1980s. Some parts of the hotel are pleasant but many other areas are poorly maintained scruffy and in need of upgrade improvement. Room was clean and bathroom was decent. But sleep was constantly interrupted by an extremely loud water system which blasted... more

We stayed for only one night and that was enough. The staff were polite, courtious and helpful. The only other plus was that breakfast coffee was good. The room decor was tired and tatty, the net curtains dirty and the beds uncomfortable. The lift and corridors permanently smelt of disinfectant. One stay was enough. more

Our Party booked 16 rooms at the Hotel as we were celebrating a family gathering in the locality - every single person in our party had nothing but monumental praise for all of the staff and couldn't express how ample in proportion and well furnished their rooms were. Our breakfast the following morning was nothing but a veritable feast -... more

the Hotel is well located in Newport, However the staff were rude and unreliable. I have written to the management, but to date (some 2 months) no response has been given! there are some better hotels in the area, if not so well located but i would rather the walk! more
