Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The positives: Friendly staff; nice evening dinner; a delightful reception gentleman with dark hair and beard; brilliant location; clean overall; wonderful bed and pillows. The negatives: bathroom was like walking into a poor 2 star hotel - tired old, rusty and filthy; shower didn't work properly and made a wining noise; luke warm water; tired woodwork in the room. 1 socket in the room to charge a phone - no sockets by the bed; scrambled unwatchable TV channels. I'm not sure if I would stay again. This is not 4* at all upstairs. Needs a complete refurb.

We had a few rooms booked for a family get together. Due to accessibility issues with a member of the group we were extremely happy to get on street parking right outside on two of the nights, and just round the corner on the third. Check in was easy using the machine in reception and lifts never took to long to arrive. Three of the rooms were on the 7th floor and all had issues with air conditioning noise, even if it wasn’t on in the room. The room itself was clean and a decent size, although a distinct lack of plug sockets for phone charging. House keeping seemed a bit hit and miss, some rooms being completely made up but top up on teas and coffee etc, and others getting the top up but not being made up. Location was great which meant we ate out for breakfast and dinner rather than at the hotel. But the bar was a nice place to sit for a drink.

Myself and a few family members stayed here for a weekend trip to Belfast. The hotel itself is decent and very central. What left it down was the staff and the communication. First of all, one evening we wanted to eat in the hotel and we were told the staff are busy with a function on in another room (basically telling us we won’t be served any food). The receptionist was dismissive and not one bit helpful. Unfortunately I left my passport in the hotel room when leaving the hotel (which I take full responsibility for). As soon as I realised I rang the hotel. There was no answer. I thought they might be busy so left it a while and rang again, and again, and again, and again. After roughly 6/7 attempts I decided to email instead and got a reply within a few hours saying that if I sent a prepaid label they would post my passport to me. I arranged for a courier from Royal Mail to collect the passport from the hotel and post it down to me using a fully tracked and traceable service that I paid for. I arranged for the passport to be collected the next day and sent on the details to the hotel saying a courier would be calling to collect it between 12-3pm. I got no reply and a few hours later I sent a follow up email and again got no reply. (Reception is 24/7 I was told) so I was starting to worry that I wasn’t hearing back from them. I rang and rang and rang and after about 13 calls someone eventually answered: this was 12pm the following day. I told him about the courier and asked if my passport was ready as the courier would be there shortly - I was told that they had it and it was ready. The courier went to the hotel at 12.15pm and I received an email to say he could not collect the item and the reason was “item was not ready for collection” I had to rearrange delivery for the following day. This hotel is absolutely impossible to get through to and simply do not care about its customers whatsoever - not one person reached out to me to try and get the issue sorted. I know it was completely my fault to leave my passport behind but people forget things all the time - if that was medicine or something valuable I would absolutely hate to have to try and get it back quickly from this hotel - you’ll be left in the dark.

Stayed here for 4 nights whilst visiting Belfast. An amazing hotel with lovely friendly staff. Room was amazing, clean and comfortable. Nice touch leaving us some cans of coke, water and choc in mini fridge. Breakfast was outstanding as was the meal we had in the restaurant. The whole hotel was clean and tidy.

Hotel is well located and just a 10 min walk from the city hall. Cathedral quarter bars are 20 min walk. Good lounge and reception and food here on site is very good. Would like to praise Paul Stafford the deputy manager who was extremely helpful and professional and an asset to the hotel. The room was clean and beds comfortable albeit on smaller side ( std double) Price is about right for the location Parking rip off .. Issue is parking as the reception send you to the NCP car park 5 min walk away They say there is discount price but it did not work, They give a code and you are supposed to call the number on the exit barrier as leaving the NCP but when we tried nobody answered and you are then holding up the exiting car queue. No answer so cant give the code from hotel and people waiting to exit behind …so had to pay the normal published amount of £36 for the stay ( friday 5pm to Sunday am 10pm ) that’s a rip off and makes the room an extra £18 per night NCP at fault probably but you end up paying it

Friendly and helpful reception staff. Clean rooms. Room overlooked the BBC Belfast offices. Used the pool facilities but was told that was the last day as the pool was closing down which is unfortunate. Great city centre location for exploring the city and close to bars, restaurants and shops. Stayed in a Clayton before and always had an enjoyable stay. Only issue is rooms could do with a little bit of an upgrade.

Dear JMadeline24, Thank you so much for your brilliant review. I'm really sorry that the health club was not available for your use. The pool did close at the end of last year however a new dry gym is availble for all our guests to use 24/7. I'm pleased that your stay was so relaxing and I hope I can welcome you back again soon. The room was clean, big and contained fridge. Staff very helpful and friendly. If I had a couple of negatives no plug sockets next to bed so not enough in the room. TV blocks the mirror. Other than that excellent stay plenty of options for breakfast.

This is definitely a 4 star hotel with regards to the amenities provided but in terms of cleanliness, I’d struggle to agree. Every surface in my room was grubby looking, the carpets throughout the hotel look disgusting, there is mould in the bathroom and worst of all, I had to clean something congealed and yellow from the toilet seat in the room (I’ll leave you all to make your own conclusions).
