The staff are ok, friendly. The rooms are large and comfortable. I was dissapointed with the showers and toilets. The location is great with a cheap cab fare to the city airport, about a tenner. There are also loads of great restaurants and bars nearby and is close to the botanic gardens and university. more

A bit scary!

This place is CHEAP, but I must say, next time I'd spend more and stay elsewhere. The staff there were friendly but totally clueless and unable to answer many simple questions. There also seemed to be a lot of random young guys (not residents) hanging around outside and in the communal areas - so as a girl there on my... more

I Stayed in the Ark a year ago and it was the best. I went back in December looking forward to seeing the friendly staff again and sleeping in a clean bed!!! Not this time the place was filthy and the beds soiled, it had a change of staff so my advices go some where else. more

I had good and bad days but coming home to the Ark after work was never like coming home to a hostel, it's like living with a big family. In response to previous emails about "bad stuff", like... more

Don t know if i stayed at a different Ark hostel but the one in university street was great. The staff even made a couple of phone calls and organised me a job with an agency. While staying in the hostel i felt more like a friend than a guest. The long term housing was great with lots of travellers... more

For me, not too bad. This can be true that some of advertised mod-cons are broken and there are some other disadvantages like a mess somewhere, but the hostel has its own great pluses. At first it is well situated, stuff makes no problem with anything, and - the most important for travellers like me - the hostel is very... more

The Ark hostel itself is not to bad but do not take a room in their long term lodgings. The Ark will make promises to you about what they will fix, and then never fix anything in these dumps. Real traveller traps these. -Broken heating -No Lighting in most areas -Up to 20 people crammed into a house with 6... more
