The staff seem to specialise in unfriendly service and were unwelcoming to guests. No smile or courtesy greeting was offered by any of the staff we encountered who delivered service with a sneer. The Avoca is in a prime location on the promenade, close enough for everything, but nice and quiet at night. This was a great place to stay. We had a fantastic view of the bay from our window, with Slieve Donard on one side and the Isle of Man and Scotland ahead. The staff told us that 15 out of 16 rooms have this great view. The hotel is privately owned and they seem to be working their way round... more
