Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Following a disappointing Homeaway cabin booking in Dalavich, we had to soure alternative dog friendly accommodation. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly, and the rooms were both immaculate and well furnished, with every attention to detail considered. Breakfast was amazing (I had scallops with smoked bacon), and the Dining room was beautiful with a big roaring fire. My son described it as being like Christmas Day, with the gorgeous table dressing. It was just a short walk into town, where the owners recommended a great dog friendly pub for dinner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend High Cliff guest house. A lovely experience.

We were delighted to find this gem of a place after being disappointed by other accommodation we'd booked. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the decor is stylish and the hosts are lovely. The breakfast table and dinimg room were sumptuously decorated with a roaring log fire, candles, and beautiful table settings. Highly recommended and we will be back!

Wonderful place, Maureen is a extraordinary super host , she try to help you with everything and she gives you very good advises like places to visit or to go with your doggy. The house is beautiful, with every single detail, and the breakfast is excellent, we can not wait to come back soon, hopefully with better weather. Thank you very much for everything Maureen!

We made a last minute booking after our initial booking elsewhere fell through, and I’m so glad we did! The guest house is located about a ten minute walk from the town, maybe fifteen on the way back, as the hill is a little steep. The hint is in the name! Our room was very well appointed. It was very clean and we were very well catered for. En suite is perfectly spacious and very clean. The rest of the house was spotless too. Our hosts could not have been more pleasant or helpful, and Maureen is an utter delight. If you opt for the full Scottish breakfast, you probably won’t need anything again for a day or two! Maureen is also an excellent source of local information and steered us towards more than a few local facilities. We were here for two nights prior to planning a longer stay in the summer. We’ll be staying here if we can. I can heartily recommend High Cliff, without any hesitation. Would most certainly stay here again.

Lovely weekend at this great wee b&b, lovely fresh room with stylish designed bathroom beautiful breakfast room with roaring open fire. But best of all is the delicious and plentiful breakfast cooked by Mike. I must say that Maureen and Mike are very friendly and welcoming hosts. Will definitely stay again when back in Oban.

Carpets were dirty, and the bed sheets and quilt covers had a lot of dirt and hair on them, obviously they hadn’t been changed. The really concerning problem was when we asked the owners to please replace the sheets, they refused and became very aggressive and belligerent. We were yelled at and insulted and told to leave immediately (this was 11pm). It was a very scary experience, it was so inappropriate and shocking, and they both seemed quite unstable. I am surprised other travellers have not posted similar experiences with this guest house. I urge anyone considering this place to please avoid it!

Response from maureen d, Manager at High Cliff Guest House

This review really steal's the biscuit. Everything was wrong from the moment they stepped out of their car my wife offered to change the location of the rooms they had booked after the initial complaint so as the family were in adjacent rooms. We had complaints from the rest of the guest's because these people were stareing at them from the open doors. and commented on how rude they were. I did vacuum the carpet to keep the peace, the dark patches he complained about came from his cheap cotton socks, as for the hair, it did not exist till they decided to leave next morning and staged the hair fallout by emptying their hair brush on the bottom sheet, it looked so ameteurish you had to laugh. They were asked to leave after we realised they were trying it on to get a refund , ( Tourists from hell fits ) We have glowing reviews in our visitor's book from the rest of the guest who stayed with us over the whole holiday period.

The room was absolutely clean, comfortable and as hot as it should be. The house is a traditional scottish one and the owners are very polite and very helpful!! The most amazing thing is the breakfast!you have to choose your breakfast from a list and they will have it ready for you at the time you want! The scottish one, was perfect. And the dining room was really nicely decorated!! I absolutely recommend it!!

Smooth checked in. A brief room description of the room amenities and the breakfast provided by the host. Room was very cozy and nice interior. Breakfast was nice and the dining area had a mixed of contemporary and old fashioned interior. Pleasant and welcoming host Ms. Maureen.

Friendly hosts and best breakfast in Scotland. Clean spacious rooms, in a quiet location. 10 Minute walk to town centre and convenient parking right outside the property. Breakfast was amazing with fresh locally sourced produce. Thanks for the broon sauce. :>)

Everything was great ! the hosts were welcoming and friendly, food was off the scale and room was fabulous. Will be back again if visiting Oban. Had no problems parking outside the guesthouse. 10 minutes walk into town.
