I went to the Kelvin Hotel in October 2009. The hotel is very well located if you are going to take a ferry, bus or train, and is a very short walk to the city center. Had pre booked over the phone prior to arrival - We arrived to check in early and were told sternley by the receptionist we could NOT get into our room till 3pm this was acceptable, but when asked if we could leave our bags we were told NO! We have stayed at Kelvin Hotel for one night on 12/7/09. There was a family room with one double bed and 3 single beds and only cost us £100 per night and including full Scotland breakfast, which is very good value for money. I know the area well, stayed overnight with a friend before a ferry. My single room was clean, had comfortable bed and was fine for my modest needs. Staff very friendly - hotel has clearly been extensively redecorated etc. First class breakfast - I had a very jolly time. more

The Kelvin Hotel is just what we were looking for - clean, good location, friendly staff, very good breakfast. Unremarkable from the outside, but charming on the inside. This hotel was in an ideal location and we had a fantastic time over new year with the staff being very informative and helpful. The room we had was obviously recently decorated and we had the comfiest bed! I hope to be back in the future. more

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Avoid at all cost. Grotty, smelly, and expensive. Staff rude and unhelpful. Go to Caledonian - same price but so much better. The Kelvin Hotel is a place NOT to stay. It is little more than a DHSS doss house with sub standard furnishings, woodchip papered walls that have cracks in. The room we stayed in was clean.
