Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There’s no desk staff and the front door is locked, except in the evening when the ground floor pub is open. Contact by phone brought someone within 10 min to check me in and take my money, giving me a room key and front door key. On my second stay I received the keys but no one came to take my money until day 3. Check out is leave the keys in a basket and go. I had already booked two stays and didn’t want the bother of finding another, but if not for that I would not have come back. The bed in the first room was terrible. The second one was better, though. The hot water was so slow to arrive I thought the shower was broken. There was only 1 electrical outlet, and soft spots in the floor. Tiny shower, no towel racks. Soap, no shampoo. Run down but clean. No A/C, but it wasn’t needed after the 1st night. Great location, though. Fish & chip shops (“chippies”) everywhere. Groceries not close, but near enough once I got my car. Lots of interesting shops on the main street very near, including a good outdoor clothing and supply place.

Needs badly updating you can smell disinfectant as you enter the front door quite sickly the hotel itself needs a major revamp I won’t be staying here again when in Oban the owners seem friendly enough and the bed was decent but skirting board’s need cleaning flaky paint i suppose for £30 a night you get what you pay for it wouldn’t be difficult in Oban too find better for a little more money and there was a musty smell so it’s definitely a no from me.

First of all I can’t believe all the negative views from this great wee hotel right in the heart of Oban, yes the decor is a bit outdated and a little bit shabby but for the price and location it’s unbelievable. Amazing location just short walk to ferry terminal for island hopping plus close to all bars and restaurants and 4 big supermarkets close by as well. Bed was comfy after long days hiking round islands and room had all mod cons and good wi-fi. Landlady was super friendly as well and let me put my stuff in my room and start exploring Oban when I arrived at the hotel early on check in day. All in all a great wee hotel and serves as a reminder not to always believe what you read on here.

I was here for exactly 4 hours, the stairs just about killed me I have MS,so I advise go elsewhere even if you don't have any disability, there is only info on the site from other guests complaining about the number of stairs, NOT THE OWNER AS SHE TOLD ME!!!! Sharon I think her name is. The electrical sockets are off the wall behind the bed!!😡 & you had to giggle the key on the Chubb lock too, I found it it a miss or a hit..lucky dip if I managed it!! Ladies - gents you may think it's cheap(not that cheap how much is your life worth!! The owner at the time was nice to my face, but when the crunch came she didn't follow through on our verbal agreement, so I claimed the funds back👍through other means. Why anyone would have this Hazzard to life (upstairs) on their books is bewildering to me!! I managed to get into another hotel and it was super!! Electric sockets actually on the wall 👌 0 STARS NOT AVAILABLE SO HAD TO GIVE ONE ⭐ Did NOT TAKE MY CAMERA OUT MY BAG TO TAKE ANY PICS OF THIS RIOT!!

This is a real locals pub. Quite pleasant and a few real characters in the place. The loos are really antiquated and in need to some attention. The upstairs accommodation is terrible. The whole place needs to be renovated. Doubt that I’d hurry back to this place.

Room dirty, bed linen dirty, electricity positively dangerous. Sockets were not only loose but hanging off the walls. Decor, carpets, curtains, windows, just filthy. The only thing going for it was the very cheap price. Seriously, it's not worth it and I should have been paid to stay here.

Booked this place for one night, to catch the ferry. The location is good but o dear when we arrived, worn out carpet, mould in the bathroom, dirty shower. The door to the bathroom and toilet was a sliding door which would not slide. The whole room felt dirty, I did not even have a shower because it was dirty. Not a good start to our holiday.

PLEASE READS THIS REVIEW BEFORE CONSIDERING BOOKING THIS AWFUL PLACE. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE OR YOU MIGHT JUST CATCH IT HERE. !!!!!!!! Oban is a great town with great people. . this is the first time I have ever left a review but feel it is only right to warn people away from this horrible place.. booked here for an overnight stay with my wife.. WE HAVE STAYED IN HOTELS ALL OVER OBAN IN THE PAST 30 YEARS AND THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST I HAVE SEEN. we got the keys to the room and went upstairs to put our stuff in the room but came sharply back down and gave the keys back to her. THE SHEETS AND PILLOWS WERE DISGUSTING ALL STAINS AND MARKS. THE CARPETS ARE UNHOOVERED AND STICKY . I could go on and on and on but I assume you are getting the message by now .. THE ROOM IS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF A HORROR MOVIE. told the landlord "CHRISTINE" the situation and that it was unusable AND SHE JUST SHRUGGED HER SHOULDERS AND WALKED AWAY. believe me we are far from fussy and have stayed in some pretty basic hotels all over the world in the past 30 years BUT THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST WE HAVE COME ACROSS. I am amazed this place passes local authority health and safety regulations. PLEASE DONT BOOK HERE !!! BOOK ANYWHERE ELSE.!!!

Booked for an overnight with friends and have to say the negative reviews are fairly unjust. Friendly staff, comfortable bed, good location did the job. This is not the Balmoral in Edinburgh so don’t judge it by the same standards.
