During a recent stay in Melrose I had the misfortune to be booked in for a meal at Burts hotel. I had had an adequate meal in the bar restaurant there some months previously. On arrival I discovered that we had been accidentally booked in to the restaurant instead. The set menu of £33 a head was too expensive for... more

Revisiting a Hotel is probably not a good idea, but we did. We said no to their very pricey restaurant and ended up squashed at a 'two-table' in the bar. There were other tables free, but were not offered to us. We chose our food and waited........When it came my steak was delicious and well presented. My wife's plate of... more

The title says it all, really. The room was comfortable enough but quite small, a bit old-fashioned (chintzy) & both it & the bathroom were looking a little tired. We were attending a 2 day function so ate dinner en masse, but the food was all good. This is very much a food-oriented hotel rather than a pub : the... more

A we had eaten dinner there before decided to eat in bar instead(the dinner is real gourmet fare). Not cheap but you get what you pay for! The food was perfection(even... more

We had a lovely peaceful break here in this hotel. The service and food was excellent. How nice the staff were we came a long way and wanted three days of bliss and peace and we got it. What a lovely town it is in with lovely little shops and the people are so friendly. The only small blip was... more

We spent a night at Burts Hotel on the way down to Weardale from the highlands and quite enjoyed the stay. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the room large and comfortable. Dinner in the bar was quite good with good service. Melrose itself was quite a lovely spot. more

Burts Hotel in Melrose is a bit of a puzzle, the food is fantastic, out of this world, some of the staff have obviously not been trained on this world! Single rooms were very small and cramped and my window looked out on a peaked roof and only actually showed 6 inches of sky at the top. Bar was closed... more

We recently spent three enjoyable days @ Burts taking advantage of their very attractive Winter Break Sale( £59.00 per person for Dinner Bed and Breakfast) The Food is outstanding and the staff are friendly and fun. They are in the midst of refurbishing some public areas but this did not detract from a very pleasurable stay in Melrose. Try the... more
