What a disappointment! The photos of the Waverley Castle Hotel on the Shearings website are recognisable but inaccurate. The hotel is in need of refurbishment. We travelled by car - there was lots of space for parking because most of the guests arrived in 3 coaches. The coach park is at the side of the hotel, directly outside room 17... More

We have just returned from a 5 day break to the Waverley Castle. I had read a few reviews, saying the standard rooms were in need of a make-over. I therefore decided to go for a Superior room. On arrival the room was clean and inviting. Unfortunately the daily cleaning service was not as good as it should have been.... More

Just had my first stay at the Waverley which was decided via the reviews on this website, I was not disappointed, the hotel does require some TLC and the food as generally OK. the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. What made the New year was the resident entertainer James, his shows were fantastic and... More

We stayed again at this hotel as part of national holidays 3 day break with 3 hour free bar certain drinks only, wine is Stowells on draught - yuk. The breakfast menu has not changed and the evening menu has had a slight make over, mutton dressed as lamb sort of change. At this point some peolple might say you... More

Just spent a 3 day wek-end break with my wife. Hotel was veryb easy to find and we received a warm welcome on arrival. We were in the older part of the hotel with no central heating but there was a heater in our room which was really warm. Room was very clean as was bathroom and very cosy. Food... More

Having spent 5 days recently at this hotel I must say that without James the hotel would go to pot. He is why we keep coming back. Certainly the hotel is in a wonderful position and is warm and comfortable but as a vegetarian it is bad. The chef clearly does not like us veggies and is unwilling to discuss... More

Spent 4 days away with National holidays and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, rooms were clean and warm, food was good and the staff were very nice. The entertainment was excellent, had a Rod Stewart night which was very good but for me "James Mullaney" who I believe is the resident compare entertainer was excellent he was very... More

Stayed 4 nights at Waverley castle hotel. Had an upgraded room which I would definitely recommend. The weather was lovely even though it was late September and we were in Melrose, Scotland. The staff were very friendly and the food was average, which is normal for an all in package holiday. Would definitely recommend this hotel. More

We could fault this hotel, but frankly it is not expensive, the food is good but the restaurant could do with a makeover. Room was good size with very high ceilings. Parts of the hotel are very hot but we were in a cooler room – and of course windows DO open. Bathroom was very modern. Room was clean and... More
