Previous reviews about the entertainment were spot on, regarding James. Most Shearings hotels offer the same thing someone singing alone to pre-recorded music. What a great Christmas we had! Excellent food and entertainment at a very reasonable price. No, it's not perfect - some of the hotel needs refurbishment but it's warm, comfortable and very clean. Will agree with the previous reviewers, great location, polite and helpful staff, food was ok, entertainment was good, but the hotel is getting on a bit and is in need of a facelift. We stayed at the Waverley as we wanted somewhere outside of Edinburgh. Melrose itself it a beautiful village - quaint and layback - perfect for a quiet break.
