Stayed here with Shearings after they cancelled our previous holiday at short notice. Hotel is in need of total refubishment. Countless floor boards and doors creek. Poor quality food. The only plus point is the staff provide a decent service. Don't expect any Customer Service from Shearings either more

I have just returned from a 5day shearings coach holiday at this hotel and i think it is excellent for the price I paid. The staff were smart and some of the politest I have ever met, service was great and the choice at meal times brilliant for the price.Frankly if you dont pay 5 star prices you cant expect five... more

I've stayed at Shearings hotels before and found them to be very good, however on this occasion it wasn't. I always ask for a high up room and did this time. I booked before the others in my party, who made no requests. They took no notice of my request but put the rest of my party high up. My 'premier'... more

When booking this trip I checked with the hotel and Shearing Holidays that Gluten Free was available on their menu, I was advised at this time it was not a problem. On arrival I checked again and they advised it was marked on the booking, yet when mum and I arrived for our evening meal the restaurant was not aware... more

The hotel is about a mile from the small town of Melrose, and there isn't a great deal to do there. The whole place could do with updating. Our room was basic, clean but in need of decorating, the furniture is past its best and the carpet didn't look very clean, but the bathroom seemed to have been recently updated,... more

My husband and I have just had a 5 day beak at this hotel and found the whole experience very disappointing. Our major complaint was the standard of the food. Has the chef never heard of fresh vegetables? I can appreciate the choice may be limited in winter but in the summer there must be so much to choose from... more

Can I say, first of all, that despite and negatives that might be included in this review, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On arrival, Monday afternoon we were allowed to our room at 3pm and made our way through the many corridors to our room (22). The room is at the back of the hotel and whilst the surrounding trees... more

My friend and I had gone on a Shearings Self Drive holiday to Oban a few years back and enjoyed it so much that we decided to book again but in The Borders this time. Our initial impression of the hotel was daunted before we even got in the door. A large broom was standing idle beside the front door,... more

Previous reviews about the entertainment were spot on, regarding James. Most Shearings hotels offer the same thing someone singing alone to pre-recorded music. Yes James did the same thing, but with his props, and little dances, and jokes made it an enjoyable evening. Usually we sit it out for one drink and leave. Unfortunately the Tom Jones tribute, on the... more

Myself and my Husband recently stayed at Waverley Castle Hotel, Melrose. The hotel was clean and comfortable and such a wonderful building with lots of history to it. The staff were very friendly, the food was very good with lots of variety. Entertainment especially James was excellant, it was lovely to hear the bagpipes and see a scottish dancer. The... more
